No feeding the post!? WTH? Our smallest center (Skelly) was inches taller than their center. We're missing nearly every long distance shot we take, and yet we CONTINUE to shoot and miss them rather than feed the post occasionally. So frustrating...Skelly could have put up some significant points in the paint last night!

I hope the coaching staff discusses that...

I disagree. NU should run its offense, and "feeding the post" really isn't a major part of their game. Skelly doesn't really have a post game, he is a pick and pop outside shooter and a roll to the bucket guy off the pick and roll. NU had an off shooting night, they took their normal shots and just didn't hit them. No need to "game plan" for CSU.....

Watching the game last nite, I had nightmarish flashbacks to our near loss to WHEATON COLLEGE about a decade ago! Wheaton's fans were there at WRyan in full force. And they actually were excited by seemingly every shot made by their team. Carmody said he was actually rooting for Wheaton after the game. The whole night was completely f* up. We were lucky to come out of last night's game with a W against Chicago State.

True.

Perhaps they should have gone to 1-3-1 zone, with Ash running the baseline.....

Defense wasn't the problem. But offensively...we were BAD last night! When you tower over your opponent, using that size offensively to your advantage occasionally is something every coach needs to understand. It almost cost us the game last night...

We ran a couple nice pick and rolls that got Skelly a couple layups. But we don't really have a true post player right now with Pardon out. I think eventually Benson will be a decent post-up option, but right now he simply doesn't establish position on the block very strongly. Understandably, he is not quite ready to assert himself and demand the ball down low. That may come in time. He has a nice little hook shot and his free throw form is pretty good too. He'll get there.

Thanks for a good discussion. I never played BB so this was an informative exchange with different opinions and no sniping. Nice

The ability to slightly adjust when one thing isn't working is pretty important...
I'm not sure it would have worked, but I think you made a decent point - it was worth trying given how badly we were shooting outside. One thing I mentioned recently in a different thread - I think we should try Vic in the post from time to time. He doesn't really have moves there yet, but when he is matched up against a guard after screens (or for a team like this, really anyone), he can just turn around and shoot over them.

Agreed, but didn't help that on multiple occasions Skelly received the ball about 8 feet from the basket, and, instead of facing and shooting or driving ot the basket, he tried to force a pass from said 8 feet! Shoot the puck, Barry, shoot the puck! Last time he did it was so bad his teammates all huddled around him and had quite the discussion...
