My thoughts on the Mick McCall decision

Good writeup, Lou. The dominance of other transfers was particularly frustrating, even given the circumstances surrounding HJ’s family life.

I’m confused by this statement:
Jason Whittaker has only been used as a Wildcat quarterback thus far.

Perhaps it’s a problem that Smith considered himself a Hoosier or Buckeye quarterback. Certainly would explain his struggles, tho. (Zing!)

Why on earth, over 13 weeks, until Marty came and ran his way to productivity at the position, didn’t NU’s quarterbacks get better? Why didn’t they develop? Fitzgerald was lamenting the same mistakes by his quarterbacks in November that he was in August.
Well, for Hunter, the answer is easy and obvious. Football was "taken off his plate" during the meat of the season during which he could have learned from first-team reps. Instead, these reps were given to Aidan Smith, who has a lower ceiling for improvement due to lesser arm strength, and he hit his ceiling.

So when Hunter was thrust back into the game at the end of the season, he was still in early-season form.
