My thoughts on the Quincy game are a bit different

* Biggest thing was, what's with all the zone? If we suck at man and want to play man, why aren't we playing more man in the exhibition?
* NU got the ball up court fast and got into it's offense fast and that was mostly due to B Mac. (scoring is not the most important performance metric for point guard) B Mac made it happen.
* On point guard...thought Ash looked good with the ball in the short time he was in. Also got right by his man but was nervous on his shot both on the drive and from three. He'll settle down and have meaningful minutes
* Law was completely different on O versus early last year. Composed, confident and not a lot of wasted motion. One strong move against an inferior defender and put the shot in from about ten feet. Didn't really see that last year. He's on track to make some noise. Best defender.
* Tap looked really good to me, especially on D. He's matured physically and makes a difference.
* Lindsey played unselfish and it hurt his game just a tad. Needs to take it to the iron. Can't let bad officiating get him off his game. Maybe the best talent on the floor.
* Thought Olah had a nice game. Several nice baskets and he defended the paint. Yes, the lilliputians running about his ankles were unnerving. Happens every year early. Looks very fit.
* What's with the short minutes on Skelly? Not a big sample size.
* JVZ looked good. You expect the dunks. But I like his speed and quickness. Got back on D fast. Great attitude
* Fun to watch Tre score, but his game has gotten bigger than that. He's a ball hawk on D and he chased down loose balls. And distributed well It wasn't infuriating to watch him with the ball like last year. There are now better options for him.
* Watching Dererk excites me. Sure, two traveling calls. But oh my gosh. He can move and has some skills.
* Taps an excellent shooter but when Falzon shoots the ball is as far from the rim as it can be when it goes in. He's not just a shooter. He was all over the place. Heady player.
* The coaches looked to be quickly punishing players for screw ups. You don't do what they want, you sit. There were fewer consequences last year. The bar has been raised.
* Finally, since I'm the unofficial president of the Sanjay Lumpkin fan club, like him better on the wing. Would rather see him be roughly equal in stature to his opponent. Liked when he slashed to the basket on O. This year will be better than last, even w fewer minutes.
* I think if you don't call backboard in college you should lose a point if it goes in.

This was noticeable. Even with full court press against them. It will be interesting how they handle this against quality opponents.
* On point guard...thought Ash looked good with the ball in the short time he was in. Also got right by his man but was nervous on his shot both on the drive and from three. He'll settle down and have meaningful minutes I agree. Ash will need a lot of time. I liked Vassar much better on D last year than what I saw of Ash but they say Ash can run an offense and will have a nice shot once he settles down. I don't think he will get as many minutes as folks on this board were touting, when we approach the BIG.
* Law was completely different on O versus early last year. Composed, confident and not a lot of wasted motion. One strong move against an inferior defender and put the shot in from about ten feet. Didn't really see that last year. He's on track to make some noise. Best defender. Also, although he is still slim, it was very noticeable that he did in fact put on about 15-20lbs as he isn't just skin and bone this year. The difference should help and he even looked just as athletic or more-so. His confidence is awesome and given the coaching decisions he may be able to avg 15-20 pts a game easy. I say, forget the extra pass, and don't pass up the open shot if he is so capable.
* Tap looked really good to me, especially on D. He's matured physically and makes a difference. I thought Tap made some mistakes on defense and still struggles holding on to the BB with rebounds. One bounced off his hands out of bounds. #4 was chest butting him and pushing him away from the ref, and it was good to see Tap not back down. I think he will be a good utility player but if we have to count on him, we might struggle getting to the NIT. I'd like to see more confidence from him as well.
* Lindsey played unselfish and it hurt his game just a tad. Needs to take it to the iron. Can't let bad officiating get him off his game. Maybe the best talent on the floor. I agree. His potential is skyward. I'd like to see how his confidence and game is against tougher competition and we will get a look against NC. If he passes that test then I'd like to see him be more selfish. This will be a Tre Demps offense though with Tre getting first cracks this year, so this may not be Lindsay's year but he will compliment things nicely. He belongs.
* Thought Olah had a nice game. Several nice baskets and he defended the paint. Yes, the lilliputians running about his ankles were unnerving. Happens every year early. Looks very fit. Still slow and will get exploited in the right matchups. Big problem is that his confidence can tank on one possession. That's usually the point where you hear Collins screaming across the floor. Overall, I think he hit his potential [which is very good] last year. Don't see or think much more upside other than he may get more of an opportunity to catch his breath this year. Of course, his size will allow him to exploit other teams who have a weak big man presence as Indy did last year.
* What's with the short minutes on Skelly? Not a big sample size.I wouldn't read too much into this.
* JVZ looked good. You expect the dunks. But I like his speed and quickness. Got back on D fast. Great attitude. What a grab getting this guy. A helluva lot better than the Harvard kid last year. IMO Olah had to play a bit soft last year due to no backup. Olah played a bit soft last night not going after a loose ball and Collins let him have it. With JVZ, I think we can be more risky with Olah. I see JVZ being that true PF in the likes of Rodman.
* Fun to watch Tre score, but his game has gotten bigger than that. He's a ball hawk on D and he chased down loose balls. And distributed well It wasn't infuriating to watch him with the ball like last year. There are now better options for him. Dre is ready. He may be a pure shooter, as opposed to just a streaky one, and he should get more open looks since it appears Law and Lindsay have a shot as well. I still want to see BMC shoot better.
Interesting play. I'm interested to see how he looks against NC. Last year, Law and Lindsay looked like Jordan and Pippen against a couple stink OOC teams then hit Northern Iowa and were on lockdown. Quincy wasn't even a sparring partner. That said, Falzon had interesting play.
* The coaches looked to be quickly punishing players for screw ups. You don't do what they want, you sit. There were fewer consequences last year. The bar has been raised. Not sure how all of this works on confidence or if it's needed. Sucks when it happens to your favorite player.
* Finally, since I'm the unofficial president of the Sanjay Lumpkin fan club, like him better on the wing. Would rather see him be roughly equal in stature to his opponent. Liked when he slashed to the basket on O. This year will be better than last, even w fewer minutes.

Hey - make that the unofficial Co-President of the Sanjay Lumpkin fan club (however, I reserve the right to the title of unofficial Pesident of the Trevor Siemian fan club to my lonesome).

For someone who didn't watch the game, can't say I disagree as it seems right on point on what we have been hearing.

Also, CC in an interview did say that things should be better for Skelley when he no longer has to play out of position and pretty much insinuated the same thing for Lumpkin (who, coming out of HS was a SG/wing).

CC hinted that Skelley could find some playing time at the 4 when there is the need to go bigger/more physical (and Skelley does have a decent outside shot); still don't expect major minutes for Skelley but next season should be a diff. story.
