From everything I have ever heard about Fitz, this makes no sense. It is inconsistent with all the values he has always talked about. Personally, I am hoping that he was not aware of it. All stories have two sides, and I hold out hope that the truth is not as bad as it currently seems.

However, I have to agree with the termination. When an organization suffers a major and embarrassing scandal, and the cause had been going on for years unnoticed or ignored, then it is clearly the fault of management, and it is appropriate that the person in direct charge has to be let go, either by mutual agreement or firing. The old phrase ‘the buck stops here’ does mean something. I like Fitz, but there is no alternative.

The overall handling of the situation by the AD and the President can correctly be described as inept -- no argument there -- and this whole situation should become a poster-child example of how not to handle a scandal.

Finally, the big mystery to me is our players. The team recruits for character and leadership. This has been true for years. They consistently have the highest average GPA in college football. When the student athletes land on campus, they are required to scrub their social media of any harmful images or statements, and they are trained to behave as representatives of the school. How any of them could have engaged in this is beyond me. Did none of them appreciate how damaging this would be if the behavior became known to the general public?

... and I thought I was depressed after at the end of last season. A whole bottle of bourbon may be needed tonight.

ASTRO, I am like a guy that had food poisoning and finally threw up after 3 days. Feel like hell but on the rebound.

Have you ever met a college kid before?

They never envisioned a scenario where it would become public...just like a sitting president who stuck his cigar into the wrong part of an intern. No shortage of examples where people couldn't see what would happen next. See also: Michael Schill before the weekend.

Elite universities and high schools aren't immune to these type of abhorrent behavior.

Having said that, as someone who underwent hazing in both sports and fraternity settings, my experience was benign (looking back, chuckle at it).

Never understood why one would want to degrade, much less do so via (allegedly) sexual abuse anyone, but particularly people you're going to be close with.

What also strikes me, personally, is how this is all supposed to toughen up a few dudes, but is all so damn homo erotic in nature.

There are a lot of players on a football team so I understand it's hard to know everything that is going on but isn't that when the players need to step in and put a stop to stuff like this. It's like the jelly donut scene in Full Metal Jacket when Sergeant Hartman tells his platoon that he has failed with Pyle because they have failed to motivate him. You need to stand up for your coach when something bad is going down not wait until after the damage is done and your coach is fired.

I’m

I mean Alexander The Great went undefeated as a head coach, and I’m almost positive used similar tactics to build camaraderie
And yet Alexander was forced to end his Indian campaign due to a mutiny, so even Alexander the Great could lose control of his soldiers.
