I was listening to Rick Neuheisel this morning. He mentioned that Navy DC Newberry(?)had the 4th rated rush defense in the country, implying he had a scheme that was responsible. I have no idea if it is scheme, talent, level of opposition or teams simply pass more but aDC that stuffs the run might be of interest to NU. He also is dealing with players that are smart and of high character

A lot to like about Brian Newberry.

I would think NU DC would pay more than the USNA job. If he could turn around NU's defense , it would be a stepping stone to a HC job

Finally a possible DC candidate mentioned that could yield some positive results for NU. Fitz needs to get the best candidate available that isn't a frigging buddy hire. Now if Fitz can allow Bajakian some space to do his thing maybe he can save this program from slipping into irrelevancy. I fear waiting another season to get a new OC might be a road to far. Hopefully the offensive problem was Fitz holding Mike back. If it wasn't, it means two more seasons of crappy football, maybe three or more if Bajakian gets canned after next season.

That seems like it might be the case. Look how long it took Michigan to get back where they are.

I'm just side-seat driving here, don't really know much about the inner-workings of Navy, but it seems weird to me that you'd kick your very longtime and generally well-liked head coach to the curb and just promote from within.

Niumatalolo was 11-23 in the last 3 years: Fitz was 11-22 over the last 3 years.

To be clear, I'm not taking issue with the decision to fire him; but a call like this is usually in the spirit of "a culture change," and that usually involves cleaning house from top to bottom.

Again, I don't know anything about the politics of Navy football...for all I/we know, Newberry was conspiring with the AD to get Ken N out of the way and clear the path for a new era...just seems like a weird call to make.

Okay sorry and I was not insinuating you were. That's like firing Fitz and promoting JON or Bakajakian.

I do think a big factor in the decision was the Army loss. That is literally the #1 job requirement is to beat Army. Losing and with the record they have plus just shelf life I see why they made the move. Promoting Newberry might be because he was hot and they didn't want to lose him. Pure speculation.

Well, moving up JON would have taken care of one problem
