NC declines NIT

Feel bad for Pete
I’m not one of the guys who is bitter about (most) of the players who leave, but Pete got paid handsomely to go play for UNC, played horribly for them, and they ended up bad as a result. Don’t feel bad for him at all. He’s not a young recruit any more, he’s a young man being well compensated to play the game, and he failed. How the cookie crumbles.

Let UNCheat play with themselves!!! Maybe This will give them more time to concentrate on those sham classes the NCAA did nothing about. Eff them!!

Why the actual hell would Oreo sponsor Pete now when his college career is completely over? good for him I guess…
That was the same question that I had when I read about that NIL deal. Outside of Evanston & Chapel Hill, I doubt many people will know who that face on the package is.

It probably says that Nabisco (or whomever makes Oreos now) can manufacturer product specific to Piggly-Wiggly, Harris-Teeter and the NC market.

All those UNC guys had NIL deals. Bacot was reportedly driving a lamborghini. Wonder if all the UNC donors want their money back.

A few years ago (believe it was 2018 and the year Pitino was forced out) I was living in Louisville and their players wanted to decline playing the NIT. They were caught on the wrong side of the bubble and claimed they had no motivation to play it. Of course the public perception was that they saw themselves as being above playing in the minor leagues.

The local backlash was fierce and they ended up playing, getting bounced in the quarters by Mississippi State. Proving that they were not too good to play with the rest of the rejects. They were just, like NC, a crap team.

Screw NC and their blue blood attitude. If you are not complete sh*/, play and show us.

I go the other way and kind of respect it. Basically no other sports above elementary school have a consolation playoff for teams who didn’t make the real playoff. The NIT is for small conference champions and other good mid majors to have a postseason opportunity, it is indeed kind of a joke for a UNC to play in it. Give some tiny school the spot.

I don't respect the arrogance ... but I understand.

I went back and forth on this. It's ironic and it's kind of sad ... but I certainly don't feel bad at all. He made a deal and it backfired. I'd have felt bad for Pete if we forced him out, and then this happened. But we didn't. He left.

I feel neither bad nor validated in any way. Coach and the players focused on the guys who STAYED and created the best version they could possibly be. I know we get frustrated (OK, I get frustrated) at some of the close losses lately ... but this is literally the best version this team could be. We don't shoot well. We are severely flawed. That's why we were picked to be 12th or 13th ... in the conference. But they developed an identity of playing HARD ... they do play hard all the time, they overachieved tremendously, and they desrved all the accolades they've gotten.

Exactly. I understand it, you had expectation you felt short of. Yada, yada, yada...

But, in the end, OK St, WI, MI, RU, all playing. They were not pre-season #1, but they all had expectation involving making it. And they are all playing the NIT.

Screw the blue bloods.

If we could get Nance and his reliable 2021-2022 scoring back on this team right now as a pure 4… we would be foolhardy not to welcome him back with open arms.

He moved on and so did Young & Simmons. I’m still cheering for all 3 of them, but not as much as I’m cheering for the guys who stayed and are thriving (several examples on our current roster).

And even guys like Kopp & Skowronek… I’m at peace with their decisions and am cheering for them to do well as well. Not against us in sports, of course; but in their professional & other pursuits

I hope we win a lot of games this March. And I also hope Pete Nance does very well in his future career(s). These are not mutually exclusive things, and PN gave us 4 years of his career for which I’m still grateful.

I feel sorry for those of you who are somehow personally offended and/or embittered by the decisions of very young adults.

I can't cheer for guys who tried to damage the NU program on their way out the door.

Kopp definitely did that, not so sure about Skowronek.
ICR if Big Ben did, but Kopp was definitely a douchebag. Also Phillips seems like he added more derogatory stuff after initial statement. Quite frankly, I don't blame a kid for doing what's best. Just keep your trap shut

No, that's what the CBI is for. The NIT has always had "major" schools since its founding before the NCAA Tournament.

Through HS, at least in IL, all teams go into the playoffs and stay in till they get beat. Win or go home. As far as the NIT, a lot of programs have used it as a springboard to greater things the following year

If a one bid conference season champ loses in Championship Tourney, in the past, they would normally go to NIT

That only became official policy after the NCAA took over the NIT, which is a fairly recent development.

I understand the technical difference, thanks, I just also recognize that it is, in fact, sort of a joke to have a UNC roll into the kids table tourney.
