What are the chances NU will make the Big Dance in the next few years? I hope it happens in my dad's lifetime.

It sure looks more and more promising, but .... take it from a fan for 50+ years ... Northwestern has a history of being snakebitten by serious injuries to top players at the most inopportune times. With Coach Collins in place, we can hope that recruiting stays on an upward trend, and that our program is able to attract the players, especially from the city and surrounding areas that it might have been getting in past years with a more intense focus on recruiting. The answer to your question, it seems to me, depends on having a roster that is deep enough to hold its own in Big Ten play over an entire season, including the conference tourney (where we have nearly always washed out) even if it loses a key player for an extended time.

I am inferring from your question that your dad is an NU guy. How old? How healthy?

Heck, as a fan of 41 years, I hope it happens in MY lifetime.

NU has been close in the late 2000's. NU will make it before 2020. Probably not this season, but within the next 4.

Either this season (if the team plays well in the Big Ten schedule) or two seasons from now are the earliest chances to make it IMO. It's hard to project past that since we won't know how well incoming recruits will pan out.

Dad will be 80 in January. But he is in perfect health. Self-employed but works probably 50 hours a week. Talks and writes like when he was 40. Have you all seen NBA analyst Hubie Brown on TV? Hubie is 82, but you would never guess it because of how sharp he is. That's how my dad is. I hope he's got another ten years in him. Edit: I hope he has many more than that, of course.

Interesting coincidence - Hubie Brown's son went to NU...

NU should make the tournament withinboth your dad's and Hubie's lifetime. :D

Must be something in the winds whipping off of Lake Michigan. Or, as my dad says, the most beautiful women on any college campus in America. :)

Unlike NJCat, I think there's a strong chance we make it this year. This is the year.

It will be close, but NU will need to win 10 regular season Big 10 games to get there from the analysis I have done.

Yup, and I think they will do that with a chance to do better than that.
