"The helmet features a big wildcat logo similar to the one featured on the black helmets worn by Northwestern against Ohio State in 2013."
Anyone superstitious?
My daughter was born seven-plus weeks early. My wife went into the hospital the Sunday night/Monday morning after the Maine game (my four year old son and I had flown to Chicago for the Maine game, and only arrived home around 2 pm, with my wife feeling 'off'), and she and my daughter held off until Thursday morning. 32 1/2 weeks. My daughter spent about two weeks in the NICU, and has fortunately been totally healthy since, despite the early, early birth.
That Ohio State game - the first half, anyway - was the first time my wife and I had fun after my daughter was born. Work and hospital drives and trying to monitor her feedings and trying not to ignore your kids who know you're spending a lot of time with this alien baby isn't very fun. We wore purple, drank too much fruit-flavored beer (a purple-hued Shock Top), and screamed and cheered in real time (no DVR with our boys asleep). Gosh it was fun. Even if it sucked in the end.
However, the Ohio State game - my daughter's first, though she experienced it from the NICU - also marked the beginning of the downturn of the Wildcat program. I love her (more than her brothers, duh), and I'm happy she's healthy, but I still haven't forgiven her. Things were just going so well in purple nation until she arrived... ("Kanye named his baby after us", I think the sign on Gameday said. Gameday! Because we earned it!)
Anyway, I see the resurrection of the HUGE Wildcat sticker as a major step in her redemption. Her brothers will be at a birthday party. It'll be just the two of us watching. Maybe I'll give her a sip of berry-flavored InBev piss.
Don't screw it up, kid.
