We don’t know very much yet about new Northwestern wide receivers coach Armon Binns. But one thing we’ve already learned is that he is not afraid to shoot his shot in recruiting.
Binns, who was hired in January to replace the fired Dennis Springer, has sent out his first batch of six 2024 offers to an impressive list of blue-chippers with equally impressive offer lists. The Wildcats will be going up against programs like Alabama, Georgia, Texas and many more in the battle to land them.
Whether or not Binns is able to sign any of them against that level of competition remains to be seen. But he has gotten Northwestern’s foot in the door early. The next step will be trying to get their feet on campus for a visit.
Many Northwestern fans will welcome the Wildcats aiming higher in recruiting, especially at wide receiver, a position group where there haven’t been many difference makers in recent years. Programs typically go after their best prospects early in a cycle.
But in a high-risk, high-reward scenario, it’s important for Binns and the Wildcats to have strong fallback Plan B options should most or all of them choose to go elsewhere.
Here’s a look at the 2024 wide receivers who have drawn offers thus far:
