I'm working on a story about NU's incoming linebackers -- how they're preparing, the opportunity they have for playing time, etc. I've talked to Blake Gallagher and Pete McIntyre so far and found out some bad news on McIntyre.
The OLB from Toledo said that his broken leg is still bothering him and that he's "still a little behind." He broke his tibia and fibula late in the year and the bone ripped through his skin. Because of that, "it makes it more difficult for blood to flow down there and heal it." He called it a "long, annoying process." The leg gets sore and it's not as strong as the other leg. He doesn't know when he'll be back to 100 percent but hopes to be fully healed by the fall. He is doing agility and footwork drills, but he can't do full sprints yet. He's very excited about the upcoming season and the opportunity in front of him as a linebacker, but, in my opinion, things certainly didn't sound promising. Maybe some doctors on the board can comment, but it sounds like he has a ways to go and I am skeptical whether he'll be able to play this year if he can't even do sprints yet. It's too bad -- he's a great kid and a promising player.
Gallagher, on the other hand, is gung ho and ready to go. He said he's in the best shape of his life and is stronger and faster than he's ever been.
I'm going to wait to talk to Chee Anyanwu and then write the story. So be on the look out for it soon.
