Despite not getting invited to a bowl for two years, Northwestern has gotten a long list of top prospects on campus this spring and even landed an early commitment.

No bowl? No problem ($)

That's proof enough for me! Visits to campus nearly always turn into commitments!

I wouldn't say no problem.

Think the recruits that typically pick the 'Cats have done their due diligence and not just taken a superficial look based on W-L totals/bowl game and understand that the past 2 seasons, the 'Cats have been esp. hit hard by the injury bug.

But not every recruit takes an in depth look and losing the momentum from having gone to 5 straight bowls (including some of the more high profile ones) probably has hurt the 'Cats with those types of recruits (case in point, the Dowell twins).

Now, some may say that the program doesn't need recruits/players like that (esp. after the Dowells then ended up dropping UK when their season spiraled down the drain), but irrespective of their individual talents, the talent level a program has makes a difference.

As MSU has continued to win and started to establish itself as a consistent upper-tier program, Dantonio has been able to upgrade recruiting.

Recruits now see that they have a good shot at making it to a big time bowl and that Dantonio has been able to turn 2/3* recruits into NFL picks.

Lou:

My only problem with this headline is that, should we make a bowl in the next 2 years, I don't want to read a headline that shows any derivative of: "Bowl eligibility (ie - a more successful season of 6 or 7 wins) proving to help 'Cats recruiting." Is that fair?

Dugan, in the real world you are right. This is not the real world. This is a fan board where we come to hope and dream and escape some of the crap that goes on in real life. Not that I want to be totally unrealistic or stupid but a little positive spin only makes this board the equal to most news outlets like FOX or MSN that totally slant their perspective to cater to their audience.

I want to be encouraged and dream on the days when I'm trying to get over real life.
