I talked to NU's newest Wildcat last night. A couple things in advance of the story I'll eventually write:
- He's being recruited as a tackle.
- He's got an 82-inch wingspan! That's crazy, more like a basketball 7-footer than a 6-foot-4 OL. That's also the reason he'll be a tackle, not a guard.
- He committed to NU without visiting. It surprised me that he pulled the trigger this early without ever setting foot on campus. He's going to come out for a spring practice visit.
- His Mom has a Ph.D. from Iowa and LOVES Northwestern. She was a big reason he committed sight unseen.
- His coach at Dawson, Eric Wells, was an assistant and the recruiting coordinator at Pearland back when Fitz recruited guys like Trevor Rees, Justan Vaughn and Brandon Roberson.
- He committed on the same day that Mick McCall went down there to visit him. He told Mick he wanted to commit, and then he talked to Cushing and eventually Fitz by phone to make it official.
