assuming you count Cal and Syracuse as comps. If not, they're 9-0 (per Teddy G tweet)

No way is Cal an academic comparable in terms of football program admission standards. I don't know enough about Syracuse to comment.

I'm a Syracuse grad. No way Syracuse is academically comparable to Northwestern (for athletes or regular students).

Yeah, those two programs are not comparable, except in the specific case of broadcast journalism for Syracuse.

Cal (despite its excellent academics for its general student pop) doesn't count (same for Michigan) - as the minimum NCAA academic req. is all that is needed.

In the past (5 yr) recruiting cycle, the 'Cats have beaten all the academic private schools.

Stanford
ND
Vandy
Rice
BC (I'm throwing them in as well since they had been a pretty big competitor on the recruiting front).

The Duke win was further out (2008), but as long as the 'Cats do their thing in 2 weeks, should rectify that as well.

But regardless, when it comes to the last match-up w/ each of those schools - the 'Cats have the W (does this make the 'Cats the reigning King of the Nerds?).

We lost to Army, but maybe that doesn't count as "private." They're as academically rigorous as it gets.

^ Still trying to forget that loss, but don't really count the military academies as the same thing as the private universities.

Totally different mandate/goal and really don't compete in terms of recruiting.
