Northwestern adds second grad transfer DT, Henrik Barndt of Indiana State
Northwestern continued to bolster its interior defensive line on Sunday with the commitment of Henrik Barndt.
Not good look adding from Indiana State and UMass while losing transfers to ND and U of I.
Brandt and Holmes are both better than Edwards right now.Not good look adding from Indiana State and UMass while losing transfers to ND and U of I.
We need big bodies with the switch to 3 down linemen. Not good look adding from Indiana State and UMass while losing transfers to ND and U of I.

I realize that. Was mostly making the point that we’ve gotten 2 defensive linemen that are better right now than the defensive lineman we lost.Brandt plays a different position from Holmes and Edwards.
How do UCLA and Pitt sound to you?
I say support the guys we have, the ones who choose to come to NU, either as freshmen or transfers. I look forward to cheering on Henrik this fall.
@lou v , his name is spelled wrong in the headline (or in the article). you have Brandt in some places and Barndt elsewhere. Edit: confirmed it is Barndt, not Brandt, presuming he spells it correctly in his tweet.![]()

Who'd we get from UCLA?
There is a DT from Harvard, all conference, Jacob Sykes, who is looking at Minny. Would be pretty disappointing if they get DL transfers from Harvard and Vandy over us.
We are moving to a three man front. The guys we’re going after fit that front. The Harvard DL guys do not. There is a DT from Harvard, all conference, Jacob Sykes, who is looking at Minny. Would be pretty disappointing if they get DL transfers from Harvard and Vandy over us.
I have so many wise a$$ comments, so little time. Note - these are not Corbi specific, just coincidentally responding to his post.We are moving to a three man front. The guys we’re going after fit that front. The Harvard DL guys do not.
Believe me, I am as apprehensive as anyone about this. I am a guy who does not like change when things are working and set a pretty high bar to justify that change. We had no choice when we changed DCs because of Hank’s retirement but to completely change schemes and philosophies seems like an unnecessary move/risk in my opinion. Having said that, our recruiting seems to clearly indicate that FItz has doubled down on O’Neil and a 3-4 or 3-3-5 alignment. It is what it is so let’s be optimistic and support their efforts to get the appropriate personnel to run that type of defense. We didn’t have the personnel to do it last year. Holmes and Barndt are good players that are ideally suited for that front. I am hopeful that we see the results on the field next year.I have so many wise a$$ comments, so little time. - Three man front. Everyone's favorite, especially when it involves a 3 man...rush...
- We must be moving to a three man front because of the surplus of high quality LB's we have...
- Good to see we got a punter. Most important guy on the team
- Here's an idea, get a QB...
Thanks for pointing that out. It's Barndt, so I was right in the headline but wrong at times in the story. It's hard to tell the difference in print.@lou v , his name is spelled wrong in the headline (or in the article). you have Brandt in some places and Barndt elsewhere. They are working on the QB part. Fingers crossed.
You and I are often misaligned. Not this time. There is this guy AyanKB(?) on INU that WANTS NUFB to fail so PF gets fired. Not me. We must make the best of it. I want him to be the coach for another 30 years. He's stubborn AF, and he's made up his mind, for now, that this is the way to go. I don't like JON (professionally) but I don't want him to fail, despite all evidence to the contrary that he WILL fail.Believe me, I am as apprehensive as anyone about this. You haven’t paid close attention. I have been posting on this board for over 20 years and have expressed disappointment & skepticism with Fitz more times than I can count. The man is far from infallible but he is a damn good coach, a better man and in my opinion by far the best person to lead NU’s football program. He also knows a whole lot more about football than I do so when I criticize or express skepticism it is with the knowledge that I May be wrong and that ultimately there is a lot that needs to go wrong over an extended period of time for me to even get to the point where I would question his standing as NU’s head coach.👏👏👏
Just acknowledging that this is the closest you’ve ever come to criticizing Fitz. Congrats! 🎉
What you won’t add is “despite all evidence to the contrary” after “let’s be optimistic”, which I can also appreciate.

re QB, even if Hilinski turns out to the be next Kafka, remember that Kafka needed a backup. Not comfortable that our remaining QB's are the next Persa. I'd like a more proven QB, if possible.
Judging from his name, he's probably of German descent, so I'm sure he won't mind a minor error /sThanks for pointing that out. It's Barndt, so I was right in the headline but wrong at times in the story. It's hard to tell the difference in print.
Sounds like The B1G will be running on us.We are moving to a three man front. The guys we’re going after fit that front. The Harvard DL guys do not.
Why anyone would transfer from Harvard to Minnesota for any reason is beyond me.There is a DT from Harvard, all conference, Jacob Sykes, who is looking at Minny. Would be pretty disappointing if they get DL transfers from Harvard and Vandy over us.
The women? Why anyone would transfer from Harvard to Minnesota for any reason is beyond me.
He’s a grad transfer. He’ll have the Harvard degree (in applied math, no less). Why anyone would transfer from Harvard to Minnesota for any reason is beyond me.
"I'm a grad transfer from Harvard on the football team". Not a bad opening line. The women?
What if those two transfers get injured do we have anybody else who fit a three-man defensive lineBelieve me, I am as apprehensive as anyone about this. Basically the guys who played last year. Not ideally suited for that 3 man front. What if those two transfers get injured do we have anybody else who fit a three-man defensive line
I'll add that given our best (read: only good) returning d linemen from last year in Adeboware is a poor physical fit for a 3-4 system and will have to move to a rush LB role, it makes it extra dicey. As discussed elsewhere though, we could easily have linemen that will thrive under the change in a way they couldn't before, whether that is helping undersized DEs or allowing our 3 tech DTs who weren't doing well inside to move to a stout 3-4 DE look.Basically the guys who played last year. I think he’d be a phenomenal 3-4 JACK type guy as well. He’s been talented enough to get to the QB in the 4-3, but honestly 3 down fronts are probably the ideal fit to his athletic profile. He has the speed and athleticism to make up for a little lack of size, the 3-4 is where those guys can be made to really shine.Adebawore could be a pretty decent stand up Rush, in my opinion. That’s the Jerry Hughes model that O’Neil was apparently selling to recruits.
Football. You know that thing we mostly talk about here. Why anyone would transfer from Harvard to Minnesota for any reason is beyond me.
Football, you know Harvard to Stanford, or NU or Duke. Minnesota does have some good grad. programs. Plus it is cold and snows a lot. That's a plus.Football. You know that thing we mostly talk about here.

This is a pretty ideal way to continue on to an impressive grad degree. Minnesota is a great flagship state school and has many great grad programs. Many of the U of M’s medical/veternary/nursing and business grad programs are regionally elite. He’s from Kansas City, so it’s a good regional fit for his future. He may even get reciprocity to complete his grad degree. A Carlson MBA on top of a Harvard undergrad is a hell of a way to start a career in the Midwest. He’ll stay enrolled for 6 months, take a few classes and move on with his Harvard Undergrad.
