Sure we have (though I can't really remember who), but the point is that players of Nance's caliber don't redshirt. I can't think of any top 50 players that have ever redshirted (non-medical). Of course, we never really had any top 50 players since Evan Eschmeyer. Maybe Eschmeyer was redshirted, but I think he was hurt right off the bat as a frosh.
Pretty much at the great programs, only projects, usually big men, are redshirted. Someone like Dikembe Mutombo or Rony Seikaly who hasn't been in the game for very long.
For schools where one and done's are the norm, you want to cycle through scholarships ASAP. The great players are going to leave early anyways, so you mind as well play them. It isn't football. The guys who you would redshirt because they aren't ready physically typically aren't going to be great because of that extra year be better isn't likely going to make them better than the best freshmen you can bring in. The exception is with bigs who need to grow into their tall frames, and players who just started playing BB.
