And they’re the four returning starters...
Collins Announces 2017-18 Team Captains
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Sullivan-Ubben head men's basketball coach Chris Collins has announced that four individuals will serve as team captains for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
Senior guards Scottie Lindsey (Hillside, Ill./Fenwick) and Bryant McIntosh (Greensburg, Ind./Greensburg), redshirt junior forward Vic Law (South Holland, Ill./St. Rita) and junior center Dererk Pardon (Cleveland, Ohio/Villa Angela-St. Joseph) each will serve in the leadership role for the Wildcats.
This is the second consecutive year that McIntosh is serving as a team captain, while it is the first time for Law, Lindsey and Pardon.
"Everyone on our roster has the ability to take on a leadership role within our program, but I believe these four individuals have stood out through their commitment and dedication, not only on the court, but also off of it," said Collins. "All four are tremendous ambassadors to our program and our University."
Each of this season's captains served as starters on last year's team that reached the NCAA tournament for the first time and compiled a program-record 24 victories.
McIntosh was a consensus second-team All-Big Ten pick last season and last week was named a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-Big Ten team. He is the nation's active leader with 551 assists, a mark that is a Northwestern record. McIntosh led the Wildcats in scoring with an average of 14.8 points per game during the 2016-17 campaign.
Lindsey joins McIntosh on the Preseason All-Big Ten team after being named to the All-Big Ten third team last season by the league's head coaches. He finished second on the team only to McIntosh with an average of 14.1 points per game a year ago, an increase of 7.7 points per game over his sophomore season. Lindsey scored in double figures in each of the team's first 20 games last season before being slowed due to illness.
Law earned a selection to the Big Ten All-Defensive team a year ago. He also contributed 12.3 points per game while ranking second on the team with a .399 three-point field goal percentage and an average of 5.8 rebounds per game. Law started all 36 games for the Wildcats during the 2016-17 season while leading the team in scoring 11 times.
Pardon ranked first in the Big Ten in league play with a .617 field goal percentage last season while ranking fifth in rebounding (8.4 rpg). He was fourth in all games with an average of 1.8 blocked shots per game. Pardon's current .622 career field goal percentage ranks first in school history.
Northwestern opens its 2017-18 season Nov. 10 when it hosts Loyola (Md.) at Allstate Arena in Rosemont. Season tickets as well as single-game tickets for the Wildcats' first nine home games are currently on sale at NUsports.com or by calling 888-GO-PURPLE.
