I had a chance to travel to Wentzville, MO to see Roderick Campbell's Chaminade Red Devils visit the Timberland H.S. Wolves tonight. The Wolves roughed up the Red Devils last year at home and as I entered the stadium I expected more of the same. The Wolves looked big and their facility was impressive. The Red Devils were having none of that crap and it was a night for revenge. The Devils ran and passed it down the Wolves throats; scoring on all three positions in the first quarter while crushing them with three and outs. The NU CB commit, Campbell, put the nail in the coffin with a pick six from the 30 as time ran out in the first half to make it 34 to 6.
I don't have the kind of trained eye to know how well Campbell did in coverage but they hardly threw his way and there were no completions on his side. There were very few completions against the Devils anyway, as the D line was dominant, stuffing the run and disrupting the backfield. I left with 7:30 to go in the game the Wolves had quit and the score was 48 to 6. The Red Devils appeared to be the much better coached team. Slightly smaller but much quicker and able to execute on both sides of the ball.
There are a couple of 10th graders on this team that should attract some NU attention especially if they have the grades. Jakobi Buchanan and Trevor Trout are big guys already and playing a lot of snaps for 10 graders. I sat with their dads, two really nice guys. It was fun. Chaminade is a fairly academic school so I hope NU stays on top. Actually, they are a real powerhouse in BB.
The parents and fans of this Chaminade team are really top notch and a lot of fun to watch a game with.
Roderick is blazing fast when he needs to put on the burners. You don't see it in coverage because no one challenges him but on the pick 6 everyone shoes fell off.
