There's a pretty interesting story on SB nation about college sports fandom as it's related to being an alumni of the school. The data is, of course, sourced from Facebook.
While most of the schools on the list with the lowest percentage of alumni are the ones that she would expect - schools where you're born in the state and immediately become a fan, like Georgia or Kentucky or Alabama (or Notre Dame) - Northwestern is actually on the list as the school with the tenth-lowest percentage of fans who are also alumni.
My hypothesis is that Northwestern's presence is simply a function of a lower percentage of alumni who are also sports fans. I figure this is also influenced by the generally entertaining brand of football that and you has played over the past 15 years, and the fact that NU had a high percentage of nationally televised ESPN games in the 11 am slot. This is the reason, for instance, that that five star quarterback mentioned NU as a favorite school to watch. He likes to watch them because they were on a lot.
No specific comment. Just some interesting data. There are probably loads of things wrong with it. Mostly, that someone took the time to do the research, I guess.
