NU LANDS COMMIT NO. 1

Wow, great news Lou, thanks! You know what a recruiting nut I am. Who will be next?

I didn't see this one coming, boys. Here's the quickie story...

Northwestern's Class of 2016 got off to a quick start on Saturday as three-star quarterback Deuce Wallace committed to the Wildcats while on an overnight visit.

NU lands first 2016 commit

Lou,

If Fitz is actually 6'2", Deuce is bigger than 6'1" In any event, I love getting this guy!

No Chores

That picture is of linebacker Alexander Gagnon. Louie linked to the wrong tweet

Re: No Chores

Well at least I got the name right, which is better than LouV's tweet link.

WOW! Seems like we start earlier each year. Always good to begin with a QB. Feels like the energy around the program is turning up.

Deuce Wallace's tape shows there is a lot that Northwestern is getting here. Great way to kick off recruiting for the 2016 class year!

Re: No Chores

If you see Alex Gagnon when you open the link do the following:

In the HTML box type https://google.com
Then in the search box type deuce wallace twitter and hit "I'm feeling lucky"

On to serious things: How many QBs are we taking this year? I really like Deuce's Hudl tape (repeat process with "Deuce Wallace Hudl"). I really liked Joshua Jackson's tape too. It also scares me that Deuce is from SEC country where the recruiting rules are there are no rules. I'd like to get them both; on the other hand, it appears that we have a good shot with 2 5 star QBs in the 2017 class. Hate to scare them off by creating a log jam on the depth chart. Glad I'm not Fitz and I don't have to make these hard decisions especially when ahole pretend fans will question him anyway he chooses to do things.

Also, anyone know anything about the WRs on Deuce's team? They look fast, and sticking with your QB seems to be a good recruiting tool (Siemian/Lawerence Malzone/Perry).

Uber, regarding your .gif

That cat is not copying the lady. The cat has worms. One of our cats when I was growing up would rub her anus on the carpet to relieve the itching and would be that position. My mother was disgusted. Went to hard wood floors as a result.

Re: No Chores

Every D1 quality quarterback should believe he is a sure-fire four-year starter, and none should be afraid of the depth chart situation.

The best case scenario for four years off is one five-star starting at QB, the other backing him up, and Yates at OLB and Wallace at FS. (I'm exaggerating, but I'd love to see NU oversign at the qb position, and slot them in as the QB chips fall.) I hope this commitment has no impact on NU's plans for any other QB targets.

"Too many QBs" is one of the best 'problems' you can have, perhaps second only to 'too many freakish pass-rushing DEs'.

Re: No Chores

Have to agree, think we should still pursue Jackson as he looks like a good prospect. Yates can play QB but also may be able to be useful in another spot. His flexibility helps us absorb a second QB. With have next to no experience at QB and even if Thorson and Alviti pan out we are thin if an injury hits.

I wouldn't expect Deuce to decommit, but the south just starts recruiting after someone verbals. Miami had 15 decommits last year. The question I want to know is what happens if LSU or Tennessee offers? A decommit at QB is worse than other positions.

Deuce looks great on tape a very good fit for our offense. Glad he choose us and look forward to keeping him in Purple.

I'd love to follow this up with a commitment from RB Jeremy Larkin. That would a be tremendous 1-2 punch locking up your top QB and top RB prospect as your first two commits. Out of the kids we had offered at QB, I thought Wallace was the best by a decent margin ahead of Jackson and Brown, in that order. Larkin is equally as impressive and following Wallace up with a commitment from Larkin would enable the staff to go out and focus on the OL next.

Did fitz see it coming?

Rivals didnt make any mention of nu and neither did Deuces wild. I wonder if this was a slight surprise for mccall.

Kis seems somewhere between a persa and CJ. A good #1 verbal.

A very nice way to start the class.

Here's an older eval of Wallace's game from Varsity Preps back when DW was playing at Riverside Academy in LA.

Makes plays with his arm and legs.

Can escape the rush, improvises when things break down, and makes a lot of athletic plays on the field.

Proven leader.

Eyes are always downfield looking for open targets.Throws with power while on the move.

Strong arm

Goes through progressions.

Good size

Good placement on the deep pass.

Still very accurate getting outside the pocket and throwing on the move.

Basically, just about everything that I would like to see in a QB (a passer who has decent/good mobility rather than a running QB who can pass some).

VP - DW

According to the article that Katatonic linked, the number one factors in choosing a school are Academics and playing time.
This explains a lot. NU has the academics and we didn't take a pure QB in this years class. If Duece is as good as advertised, he will likely start for two years even if Thorson is a first round draft choice. He likely believes he will be the number two QB as a redshirt Freshman.
