NU-Minnesota official first-half thread

Sorry to say but Thorson and the OL are going to lose this game for us. This is the reverse of last year's game where Leidner kept turning it over. Thorson is not being protected but on that play he had a LOT of time and failed to either throw it away or protect the ball.

I'm afraid the result is going to be much the same today (except in their favor).

They aren't even blitzing. They are sacking Thorson with four man rushes. The OLine is getting destroyed. Four sacks and eight TFLs, that's on the O-line.

Since MN was kicking a FG, why in the hell would they take a TO with 26 seconds left in the half? Now they have to kick-off to the top kick returner in the conference. Clock management by college coaches is suspect at best.

Update: now they kick it out of bounds with us having a TO. Stupid.

As usual, Fitz looks lost and dumbfounded by what's happening.

How does this keep happening? Why do we come out so unprepared and shell-shocked so often?

he is a good program manager and inspirational, but has never been much of a game day coach

At 4th and 1, NU was about to get back in the game. But then our OC called something so completely predictable that NU remained out of it.

The Minny D is just all over CT and JJ.

If we tried one long pass why not another? We would have had time to either try a FG or a shot at the end zone. It made no sense to just take a knee after that.

Let's see if the coaches and players really want this one in the second half. Not saying they didn't want it in the first half but they sure as heck were playing way below their collective ability. Shades of the WMU game.

Let's stick a fork in the first half and move on. Hopefully we turn this game around.

Yet, if we could kick FGs , it would be 12-6. Weird. Whoda thought two years ago this would be a problem?

Let's just start with a quick kickoff return for TD and then not look back!

You know it's a bad punt when it never comes back into view of the camera, which is focused 10 years downfield.

So much for scoring to open the half. Aaand we're about done. Almost no need for a second half thread anyway.

You'd think by now Fitz & McC would know by now not to hand it off to the RB on 4th (or 3rd) and 1 (esp. out of shotgun).

Hardly ever worked before and what made them think it would work this time against a Minny front 7 that is simply dominating?

Kubiak finally learned that his running game was not going to convert on 3rd/4th and short and last week had Siemian run 2 QB sneaks (successful both times) even with a bum shoulder.

Yeah, the O-line is stinking it up and Thorson has looked shaky at times (understandable considering the play of the O-line), but the coaches are also not putting the players in position to succeed.

That's Mr Conservative/HC.
As I said earlier, that # 8 is a dirty player. Coaches should be held accountable for all of these "targeting" penalties. Maybe if the refs and thrown some flags earlier, Carr wouldn't have taken that hit.
