It's been a game of runs so far. The'Cats have trailed by as many as ten, rallied to go up by as many as seven, but now trail 43-36 at the start of the second half.

Demps goes wild woth 10 points to start the half, but cats still down 7. Rebounding is killing us.

We are not that far off. UNC is ridiculously athletic and we are playing well but they are too quick for us. Law would help here to combat some of the real athletic wings

'Cats clanging shots...

Losing Law's D was huge (as well as his O); but things should look better in a couple of yrs when the 'Cats can bring out a F group made up of Law, Skelly, Falzon and RI.

I hate to break it to you, but we are far away from this level. We don't have the athletes and we really have no depth - especially with Law out.

Skell y would have sacrificed his body; thinking his ankle is what is keeping him out.

But Mac is a player. That is clear.

That is true, but BMac would have struggled against UNC's starting PG.

Who is going to play guard next year? Demps never sits. He is a competitor.

We just don't play enough defense to be an NCAA level team yet. Hopefully CC can keep bringing in athletes.

We may never get to UNC level but then again many of the players they recruit we cannot. The big ten is down and even though unc lost to Northern Iowa there is no doubt they are a top ten team. If our d improves we will be fine

That UNI loss hurt us I think. NC played really well. They played hard and fast, made shots and made all their damn FTs. They looked really good.

A couple of thoughts:

1. Poor rebounding will cost us a lot of games.
2. Stating the obvious, we miss Law.
3. Everyone was participating in the offense in the first half. When Tre briefly got hot in the second half, everyone else just faded into the background to let him operate. When Tre cooled off, the team was out of sync.
4. Unless I am missing something, three of our starters literally had no stats in the second half. No impact at all. That can't happen.

They recruit quite a few people other schools cannot, and that's not meant as a compliment. We'll see if the NCAA has the balls to do anything about the blatant academic fraud scandal that went on there. If not, they might as well just say you can recruit anyone who walks through the door and be done with it.

Double whammy - the 'Cats were thin at the F position w/ both Law and (evidently) Skelly out (really could have used his size and physicality).

Overly reliant on the guards tonight.

Still, the 'Cats might have the makings of an NIT team yet.

Think the real chance at the NCAA will be during the 2017-18 season.

The Fs should be the best position groupings going at least 4 deep - w/ RI having a season under his belt.

The center position/duo of Pardon and Benson is a big ? - but think that they will at the very least be serviceable w/ the 2 giving giving different looks at the 5.

BMac as SR - nuff said.

The other guard position is another ?

Will Lindsey make the year on year improvements that Hearn and Demps have done?

Or will Ash or Brown be the answer? (Still need a rotation of at least 3 at guard.)

Points from the game:
1. UNC has 5 McDonald's All-Americans on roster. That means five 5-star players - 1. Jackson, 2. Paige, 3. Meeks, 4. Pinson and 5. maybe Hicks; while NU has 2 4-star players in Falzon and Vic Law. Law's injury will seriously hurt our chances against Top 16-20 caliber teams - Maryland, Purdue, MSU and Indiana come quickly to mind because those teams all have NBA draft able players;
2. Failure to get Olah involved in the second half hurt the team. He was doing great in the first half;
3. Lumpkin (physical defense on mid-major level talent is his skill) and Taphorn (occasional three point shot) are one skilled players and that does not fly against teams with multi-dimensional or good athletes;
4. Skelly should have played more. My guess is he must have hurt his ankle more on the last play v. Columbia. But who knows?;
5. McIntosh and Demps will be our consistent leaders, but they need to learn to feed Olah more; and
6. Lindsey's and Falzon's continued development is critical to the team's success this year and in the future. Lindsey looked much improved tonight and needs to get consistent minutes. I liked Falzon taking the ball to the hoop a couple of times; and
7. Did anyone else think Dakich was awful? Trying to excuse the UNC 20-year academic scandal is a joke! The head coach has his hand on everything. To excuse Roy Williams completely is not reality.

^ *-ratings don't always correlate to actual production on the court.

If the 'Cats had a Shurna, Coble, Crawford or Swop (who was also a 3* recruit) as well as Law, available at F - might have gone down to the wire.

I live in North Carolina and have read a fair amount about the academic scandal, which is indeed bad. But it is my understanding that nothing at all has been tied to the Roy Williams regime. Most of the problems have been in the football program. The basketball program was also involved, but pre-Williams. As much as it pains Carolina fans, there is evidence the issue extended back into the Dean Smith era.

As an aside, former 'Cat Abrahamson is starting off his career at Drake w/ a bang - put up 41 pts against W. Kentucky - raising his season avg. to 21.75 ppg.

Granted, against inferior competition, but the Bulldogs have games against DePaul and Iowa coming up.

Dakich is intolerable. Not only what you said (which is spot on and was embarrassing to listen to) but he is mean (going on and on about how "overrated" a guy was). I don't think he offers any insight whatsoever into what is happening on the court.

Whoa. Maybe he was better than I thought.

It's still Division I ball, and if you can put up 41, you have got to have some skillz.

Mr. Optimism strikes again! lol

Tell me, Doc. Do you find an 11-point loss to UNC w/o Law and Skelly disappointing?
Can you live a day without picking a fight? Did I write something objectionable to incite that response?

I don't get much out of the NC game to be honest with you. NC didn't have their best player and we didn't have one of ours. We hung with them pretty well for awhile. I thought our use of Olah was very suspect in the second half. Clearly NC is a much more athletic team. I still think we are a fringe NIT team.
