NU working on NIL deal to keep Boo and Chase in purple

As I see it, the only way for a free boarder to find out about and participate in said NIL is to become a premium board member. Pay in order to pay.

You can literally google our widely publicized NIL collective and go follow it on Twitter. This isn’t hard.

You want the very major scoop in this article that Lou has, which has a LOT of info? Pay Lou his money.

How exactly does this "TrueNU" program work, anyway?

(1) Donor gives money to TrueNU
(2) TrueNU gives money to athlete
(3) In return, Athlete lets service organization/charity use their Name/Image/Likeness to help the service organization/charity

Do I have that right?

Agreed; potentially monumental scoop by Lou here.

Would really signal a sea change in athletics for NU if we are able to compensate these two enough to match/exceed what they would earn elsewhere and thereby enable them to stay for an extra year.

Obviously, part of this is Covid and the extra year of eligibility which will likely be running out in the next year or two for most players.

But one can think about the what ifs in either sport with players that would make a huge difference here but aren't quite as highly rated by the NFL/NBA.

Just think about 2 years ago when keeping Peyton Ramsey wasn't really an option. Now, after a division title and a high quality bowl win? We'd absolutely be able to put together an offer that guarantees earnings and provides a safe extra year for a player that doesn't expect to get drafted at the top level, especially for a player that can be a huge difference maker here.

This is the part where NU is on level playing field, sort of. We seem to have a number of FB and BB players that probably won't make NFL or NBA, but perhaps CFL or Euro BBall. So, instead of chasing one-and-done players like PBJ, we get an extra year of Audige, for instance. Probably lose Brandon Joseph but keep some other super senior that might otherwise transfer.

Fitz harrumphs about being a program that focuses on HS and not portal, but even he throws roses at "the seniors' " feet.

The same problem exists in the business world. You have to leave to get paid market rate. Perhaps focusing on "retention" will help

I agree with that; I really think there's a niche for us where guys that we develop (or that transfer here) as huge college contributors may not be as sought after at the pro level when deciding what to do with their final year of eligibility. Positions like QB or guards (obviously those come to mind when talking Ramsey or Buie/Audige) where if we develop a guy, he may not be as sought after at NFL/NBA level as say a 5 star QB or guard from a big brand program who's rated as more "athletic" or higher upside.

Those individuals are deciding between 1) stay at NU on an NIL deal and get another year of development in our sparkling facilities, another year of play where he can be seen nationally on the Big Ten stage before going pro, be in a known/comfortable environment with connections developed over previous years or 2) try to make the NFL/NBA but potentially go undrafted and then try to figure out where they fit in overseas or at a secondary level.

All of a sudden, staying at NU on a competitive NIL deal starts to look really attractive. I really think if the 2020 football season had just happened that we'd have a far greater chance of say keeping Ramsey for an extra year.

Obviously, I don't want to get ahead of myself, proof is in the pudding and all that. Have to see whether we can get to the finish line with Buie/Audige staying an extra year. But this can be a model for the future for NU and NIL with high level contributors.
