Lausch’s stat line was surprising to me, only 18 passes. Seemed to me we were pass heavy. But we actually didn’t run that many plays because Maryland had the ball like the entire 3rd quarter. He sure made those 10 completions count. He made the throws a B1G QB needs to make. Henning should’ve probably caught another perfectly placed 30 yarder. And he’s making these big strides with a patchwork OL and not much of a running game.

Maryland had 25 first downs and 10 points. They shortened the game for us in a way by taking like 20 minutes out of the second. Half and only scoring 3 points.

And we had 9 first downs and 37 points.

The entire game was dictated by our +4 turnover margin. Our O showed some rarely seen (at NU) explosive capability, but otherwise was somewhat pedestrian in terms of yards, first downs, etc… The D won this game with a scoop and score and 3 other takeaways that negated Maryland’s offensive production and put us in scoring position. Gotta give the O credit though for putting some points on the board when given the chance.

Lausch probably should have had 2 TD passes (on the 1st long completion if he had hit the receiver in stride and in the EZ when the defender had slipped), but that will come in time with more experience (and hopefully better protection).

There should be more bumps on the road for Lausch as the schedule gets tougher, but he's showing promise and this should all pay off in the coming years (if not sneaking into bowl eligibility this season).

The bad - 5 drives resulting in punts; all 5 being 3 and out.
