During all the discussions about the Cats and McCall this year, one constant was the hope the Coach Hankwitz would stay forever and praise for his accomplishments.

One thing that crossed my mind reading about the hopes that the Cats find an innovative OC is the thought that maybe an OC benefits from relative youth. There is something to be said for not being completely wedded to concepts that were current 15 years ago, and being willing to try new wrinkles. It also seems to me that an OC chooses a subset of football strategy to fit the players he has and conference landscape: he makes the first move in a game plan and establishes the tone. The DC has to react, and a more experienced coordinator (like Hankwitz) has seen it all and can do so.

Maybe McCall had coached beyond his era, and maybethat is more likely on the offense side of the ball.
