My bet is even at kickoff but who knows what to expect until we see the game plan. If we do the same dopey plans that we did at michigan i would expect another thorough beating.

This is eithef going to be a blowout by iowa or a close nu win. I dont believe iowa will win a close one.

I agree that it is possible that Iowa blows out NU (it happened just last seas), and think either team could win a close one. I don't see any way NU blows out Iowa, they just are built that was against very good teams, particularly Iowa. Games with the hawks under Pat have been 7-48, 10-17, 28-17, 31-41, 21-17, 17-10, 22-17, 17-28 and 21-7.

Iowa is beat to hell so anything could happen. Both Tackles are out.

#1 back coming into season is out.

Drew Ott, the best defensive player-Out

CJ Beathard has been taking a beating back there and injured his groin and his hip last week.

They are walking wounded. Biggest concern is the OL. It is depleted severely and a true freshman recruited as a center and had only played guard this season prior to last week is now the starting RT.

Canzeri is coming off of 43 carries and has hit 30 at least one other time. He's not very big, it's bound to catch up.

Edited to add:

Iowa is without their best (far and away) wide receiver

and is also without their best TE.

Not sure how I forgot about those 2 guys.

Just look at the NU-Mich tape. I do not think Iowa is excessively worried about the Cats.

I see you laying in the weeds......trying to make me over confident and comfortable before sneeking up behind and hitting me over the head with a shovel and taking my toys.

that game last week was a freak occurrence and is not reflective of what NU has this year. While I do think NU has played pretty far above their abilities to start this season, that game last week means nothing in the big picture of things, particularly with this weekend coming up and how beat up Iowa is

Quality post! I love when other colleges posters add insightful and respectful commentary here! Klemman at OSU comes to mind, great guy and now my friend we will add you. I'd be interested in what you think of our team this year from an Iowa perspective?

Beathard is playing banged up. Ruduck didn't show the same durability or ability to keep drives moving.

Both Iowa and Northwestern have improved compared to last year.

Canzeri has had 6 straight career days in one capacity or another.

Mitchell and Wadley will back him up. Wadley had a career day as 3rd string RB last year, as freshman.

Special teams could play big role.

Don't see 10-7 type game. Heck, remember 41-31 game at Iowa in 2011.

Defenses could aid scoring.

We shall see Saturday, but should be good game.

LT Croston is making 3rd B1G start and RT Daniels will make first start.

Northwestern and Iowa ... who makes more plays on 1st and 2nd down. Who stays ahead of chains?

Who makes more explosive plays?

peace

The line is at Iowa -2.5, which is crazy. This is an evenly matched game, on the road, with lots of injuries. I would put it NW -2.5.

I dont see iowa winning a close one at Ryam Field. They could blow the cats out due to a half baked game plan by fitz that focuses on passiveness.
But i think Fitz sucks it up and learns from hus michigan errors.
cats will win this one.

The conversation between NU and Iowa fans has been far too respectful. Can we talk about Hayden Fry and Gary Barnett some more? Should I post the video of Wootton breaking Stanzi's leg?

Iowa has won in the fourth quarter @ Iowa State and @ Wisconsin (2 trophies)
Iowa has won in the fourth quarter vs. Pitt and to Illinois

Northwestern has lead all season, with the exception of @ Michigan.

We shall see early, how this one may play out, then again, remember the 2005 game?

Iowa has shown something different this season, over the past ten years. They are off to a 6-0 start, like 1985, and the seventh game is @ Northwestern again.

The most fun I've had beating Iowa was when you were 9-0 and dreaming of a National Title.

Iowa's injuries have been to positions, where the "next man in" has stepped up. Iowa's leadership in the O-Line was in the interior. The injuries have been to the two newcomers in the starting line-up. The difference between the new starters and the old starters aren't a huge gap in the experience factor.

The skill players have had others stepped up and experience in all but one of those spots.

The DE loss of Ott is permanent now, but Hesse played substantially in @ ISU and against Pitt, due to Ott's elbow injury.

Ricky Stanzi didn't break his leg, but injured his ankle in 2009. He lead Iowa to a Bowl Win, but missed @ OSU and Minnesota.

Ironically, Iowa nearly beat Ohio State, with out Stanzi for the Big Ten Title, losing to OSU in Columbus in OT.

Next man in ...

To respectful huh, were gonna stomp a mudhole in your ass.....LOL Is that a little less respectful? :) Should be a great game. Last year won't happen this year, as it was just one of those games where everything went wrong for NU and the opposite for Iowa. I see a close game this year. I am joking about the mudhole, just in case anyone thought it was a serious comment.

Payback for the Iowa win in 2000 over the 8-4 Northwestern team. Iowa was 3-9 that season and without the loss, Northwestern may have trumped Drew Brees and Purdue.

The 1995 and 1996 wins would have come to mind before 2009. It was a good run in 2009, but the hit on Stanzi, but does Iowa win @ Ohio State with Stanzi?

Stanzi was 0-3 vs. Northwestern. Kyle McCann, Brad Banks, Jake Christensen, James Vandenberg and Jake Rudock all enjoyed wins over Northwestern. Rudock is now 3-0.

It will be interesting game on Saturday, with C.J. Beathard and Iowa.
