At least you won't have to worry during the post season.

Buh dum tiss!

You have a really poor grasp on.... anything sports related really, which is surprising to me considering how old you are.

For now on I'd recommend you just tap out of the baseball conversation. You don't know anything about the game and it really shows... but for the sake of being a standup guy I'll help you out here.

Take the following paragraphs as gospel, because anyone with a brain knows they are, in fact, gospel:

The Cubs have had one playoff game in the last two years, in spite of being smack dab in the middle of their contention window. Their payroll situation sucks and have to pay Bryant, Baez, Rizzo, and Contreras soon, assuming they don't unload any of those guys because of said payroll issues. They are also about to lose Lester and Quintana. Their farm system is mediocre and their long term outlook is not one that screams "World Series contender".

The White Sox on the other hand have one of the best young cores in baseball, possess a below league median payroll with [a lot] of room to add via free agency, still have a good farm system and are *just now* starting to open their window.

One or both teams might miss or make the playoffs. But anyone with a brain knows the White Sox are trending in the right direction while the Cubs are NOT.

I capitalized "not" as an ode to you, as you seem to think it better drives home a point in your posts.

Newsflash - it doesn't. It makes you look like a 10 year old. *inserts attendance joke even though attendance m

Between this trolling and the NU attendance trolling and the "lower admissions standards" trolling, willy is becoming the new Turk. He just needs a few extra accounts to talk to himself.

What will Reinsdorf be doing? Just counting his money and looking back at another losing season.

I'd rather he be keeping and counting it than donating it to Donald Trump! In fact, I'd kind of rather my team contract (I'll save you the comment that no one would notice anyway) than have ownership that owes its soul to Donald Trump. But hey, by all means, keep supporting them!

He's not obtuse. It's just really bad and easy to pick apart "My team is better" stuff.

Truthfully... I had no idea if I was using "obtuse" correctly or not within the context of that reply. Win some, lose some

Still, Willy stanks out loud

While Theo is forced to break up the Cubbies because he somehow can’t afford to pay KB, Javy, Rizzo and Willy. I guess he’ll just have to charge more for his TV Network. Running up costs for the little man. Kind of sounds like the West parking lot and the Wilson Club, Willy.

This thread is very fun.
it's about the only fun you Sox fans have had in close to 15 years. BTW how many of you hold Sox season tickets or even go to more then a couple of games. There are a lot of empty seats at Arrow Down Field!

Good! Being able to buy $10 seats and sit two rows behind the dugout is awesome. Being able to walk all over the stadium fairly unobstructed with my kids is awesome. Quick access to bathrooms and concessions is awesome. Arrow Down 4Life.

Dream on. And the seats will still be mostly empty, except when the Cubs fans fill them up for their games at Arrow-Down Field.

Well, Sox have extended Moncada now. Most of their young core is under control for the foreseeable future - just like the Cubs...oh wait....

And how long do you think the Cubs have had control of Rizzo, Bryant, Baez, Contreras, Happ, Almora, Schwarber, Lester, Hendricks??? Hint, way before 2016.

Soon let's start a MLB prediction thread, but I think we should do it on the rant forum where it's more appropriate.
With a poor b ball season this thread has taken over as my favorite in the off season.

Now if I could just see Willy’s beloved Cubbies on TV in Chicago. Wait, how much is my bill going up to pay KB or not pay KB?

This is the dumbest thing you've ever said. And that's saying something.

PS -

Young core, followed by how long they year they're controlled through:

Tim Anderson, 2024
Eloy Jimenez, 2026
Luis Robert, 2027
Dylan Cease, 2025
Andrew Vaughn, (probably) 2029
Michael Kopech, 2025
Aaron Bummer, 2026
Yoan Moncada, 2025
Nick Madrigal, (probably) 2027
Lucas Giolito, 2023

and then the vets:

Jose Abreu, 2022
Yasmani Grandal, 2023
Dallas Keuchel, 2023

Oh and their payroll is still below the league median.

ATTENDANCE ATTENDANCE ATTENDANCE THOUGH! Hope you plan on going to Wrigley opening day or you're probably not able to watch the game on TV.

You just hate to see it

Haven't been to Edgytim in years, but he used to (still does?) have a baseball board. He's a huge Sox fan. No idea if Lou can just make that happen, but this thread has had a ton of good back and forth outside of Willy's idiocy. Maybe just start a new thread and pin it at the top or something?

PS -

Rizzo: FA after 2021
Bryant: FA after 2021
Baez: FA after after 2021
Schwarber FA after 2021
Lester: FA after 2021
Contreras: FA after 2022
Hendricks: FA after 2024

Rizzo is looking at a $150MM deal, Bryant a $250MM deal, Baez a $200MM deal, Schwarber a $100MM deal and Lester will be washed by the time his deal is up.

Come July 2021 the Cubs are going to be unloading some of these guys and looking to start from scratch with a rebuild again. No owner on earth can/would pay for all of the contracts those guys are going to be looking for

For at least one World Series, um, two post season appearances? Dynasty at its best. People are already forgetting about the Yankees!

But the Cubs have a highly rated minor league system, right? Lots of new bullets to simply reload! The dynasty continues uninterrupted. Willy can expect many more years of mediocrity.

But the Cubs set the Cactus League attendance record today, so they should be happy since that's all they really care about anyway.

Yeah, good call. Can't forget about the attendance in Arizona. Also, to be fair and unbiased, don't forget they have Darvish and Heyward locked up 2023 each... At least they have that going for them

Moderators, can we move this to the baseball board , or maybe the Rant Board. Anywhere but on a NU Football Board. Maybe all of these losers can start a Purple Sox Board. BYE!

I'll be here watching a wining Cubs team. You will still be stuck with a loser. Baseball Board!

Why don't you respond to my post about all the pending Cubs free agents that are on the horizon? Ricketts going to drop around 3/4 a billion dollars in one offseason to resign them?

I'm staying in tonight watching GoT reruns, so I dug into it just a bit more and am writing this post completely and totally in spite of Willycat, who has yet to support any argument he's ever made with.... anything at all, really.

If the Cubs signed all of the pending free agents I mentioned, they'd be in lux tax hell

Rizzo is looking at a $150MM deal, Bryant a $250MM deal, Baez a $200MM deal, Schwarber a $100MM deal and Lester will be washed by the time his deal is up.

Rizzo 6/150 (based off Hosmer's deal)
Bryant 8/250 (based off Arenado's deal)
Baez 7/200 (he was hard to gauge)
Schwarber 5/100 (based on age/power output/OBP, can DH in AL or play a subpar OF in NL)

That's around $100MM AAV, and AAV is what's counted against the lux tax, which will be around $212-15MM in 2022. Obviously the numbers could vary greatly, but I think I was spot on for Rizzo/Bryant based on past player contract comps and production. Baez could be anywhere from $150-250MM depending on how he does the next two years, so I used $200MM as a middle ground.

Schwarber was a weird one too but he'll only be in his age 28 season at FA so he should get paid, relatively speaking.

Then they also have to replace Lester after next year and Quintana after this year. That's a ton of money off the books, but also a ton of IP to replace. Chatwood off the books as well. I'd assume they'll look to resign/extend Q as a reliable innings eater who won't break the bank. Lester might hang em up. Chatwood is gone.

Looking at the 2020-21 free agent SPs, it's REALLY bare bones. Nobody is close to top tier on this list.

So they'll have to find pitching via the trade market. As it sits right now, Keith Law has their farm ranked 28th in baseball. Baseball America has them 22nd. They'll fill one void with Braelyn Marquez who's a LHP with freaky good stuff but not ready for a 175IP workload quite yet. Dude could be a stud though, LHP that throw 97-100 don't grow on trees.

After that it's slim Pickens in the farm. So my question is, who do they trade for SP? Not a clue. Obviously there is bias here, but I'm of the opinion that if they aren't cruising to a division title come July 2021, they blow it up, trade 2-3 of their core guys and totally restock the farm. Then they'll be playing for 2025ish.

LMK where I'm wrong, would love to keep this convo going in spite of Willycat and because I love this shit.

PS - love how he called for moderators to delete the thread or w/e, while simultaneously breaking Rivals' rules in calling anyone who's participated in this (really fun) convo a loser.
