OT: Chier Ajou

Chier had 15 fouls in his first 50 minutes of game play, including 4 fouls in 6 minutes in the opener and fouling out in 11 minutes of action in another game. Yikes.

I'd be curious to know his background in basketball (i.e. when he started playing, etc). Anyone know? Some people have a hard time picking up a brand new sport once they hit their teens. Is this the case with him? Just started too late?

Came to the United States in 2008 having never played organized basketball

Also, he's listed at 7'1. . . I guess he shrank a little after he left Evanston?

Chier sat on the bench at NU. I believe he should have been used to give fouls-attempt to block every shot and accept the consequences, possibly changing the flow of the game on occasion. He was at every game but his 5 fouls were not used

In fact doc, Ajou wasn't a true Div 1 BB player and can't figure out why he got a scholarship offer from NU and their were some others, in those years, who also got NU rides and didn't have the talent to play in the Big Ten. Maybe kids back then just had no interest in playing for NU or the coaches failed to identify and recruit potential Big Ten talent. Seems like quite a few highly recruited kids are now showing interest in playing and committing to NU, even though they are still playing in the same arena that was said to be an embarrassment, continue to have the same high academic standard and the same W-L history. So what has changed?

You are thinking of a different doc. You trying to start a coaching debate thread?

No, I know docrugby and was just trying to explain why Ajou is not playing at NU any longer. Actually, tired of debating the other doc but maybe a recruiting discussion could be initiated.
