This may be a huge issue, obviously and most importantly in terms of player health, but also in terms of competitiveness between programs. Some of the doctors on the Board should comment but from a layman's viewpoint a relatively "simple" judgement on how much time is needed for recovery from an injury can easily be manipulated by football coaches to the long term detriment of a player. IMO that is what happened with Tua at Alabama.

I don't know what the medical staff structure at NU is but I believe Fitz when he says he leaves medical decisions to them. Resulting in longer lists of injuries and longer durations of recovery? Increased sensitivity to concussions and more complete discussions with athletes on their status? Sounds like there is a study in there somewhere.
