St. John's who has looked just beyond awful in back to back losses to a terrible LIU team and Penn State, goes to the Carrier Dome and hands a good Syracuse team their worst loss at the Dome. Ever.
Holy Chaminade, Batman! But you know, that's part of what makes sports so great -- you just never know.St. John's who has looked just beyond awful in back to back losses to a terrible LIU team and Penn State, goes to the Carrier Dome and hands a good Syracuse team their worst loss at the Dome. Ever.

You claim Syracuse is a good team. But are they really? Their best win of the season is over kenpom #74 Monmouth. Their next best win is over kenpom #117 Eastern Michigan. Monmouth aside, Syracuse has lost to every current top 100 kenpom team (which now includes St. John's) that they have faced. Aside from a little bit of the Wisconsin game, I haven't seen Syracuse play this season...but that's 5 losses now.

I've seen Syracuse play. I have seen St. John's play. There is no way that St. John's should have boatraced Syracuse the way they did last night. I grew up a huge St. John's fan, but this year's version of St. John's should not be handing ANYONE their worst home loss at their gym. But that it exactly what they did to Syracuse last night.
Fair enough. I just have a hard time understanding how any 5-loss team right now has proven themselves as a "good team." The top-rated 5-loss teams are Syracuse, Michigan State and Oklahoma (all kenpom 45-60). But, from what I can tell, the most distinguishing thing about these teams is that they have all played tough schedules and lost to good teams. At least MSU and Oklahoma each have one quality win. Syracuse does not.
Fair point as well, Guess I'm not communicating my definition of "good". To better characterize it, I would say that Texas is "good". As in good, but not very good or great. I view Syracuse similarly to Texas, with perhaps Syracuse a notch above, but both "good" teams. St. John's however, I would classify as "poor". They lost to Delaware State at home (think MVSU territory), LIU at. Barclay's (not much better than D-State) coming in , and they have not looked anywhere close to a team with a pulse in the two games I have seen them play, both blowout losses to middling opponents. And they didn't just beat Syracuse, they beat them like we beat New Orleans. Even the St. John's coach appeared to be in shock (see link below).
I am happy for Chris Mullin, I grew up watching him at St, John's, and he really needed something to point to as a positive in what has been a fairly miserable rebuilding year thus far, but this was beyond belief, imo.

This might be a sign that it is time for Jim Boeheim to call it quits......
St. John's beat Butler tonight. Maybe they're not so bad after all.Syracuse = slept on St Johns
