OT: Mo'ne Davis

Some moron named Joey Casselberry called Mo'ne Davis a slut on twitter. Casselberry plays baseball for Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania. Bloomsburg University did the natural overreaction and threw him off the team. Mo'ne Davis has reached out to Casselberry and has requested that Bloomsburg reinstates him to the baseball team because "everyone makes mistakes."

I wanted to point this out in the most public forum that I have because I think Mo'ne Davis is a mature class act. I know I wasn't that mature at 14. I'm probably still not that mature for that matter.

I hear you. The difference between now and the stunts I pulled back in the day is about the same as analog v. wifi. Now, there is no such thing as an inside joke given the rapid and oftentimes unforeseeable distribution of whatever statement was made - regardless of context. And a person is now saddled with his or her mistake indefinitely given applications such as google and Facebook. What Mo'ne did was essentially say: "if I got over the comment that was targeted only at me, there is no good reason why you can't too." That will certainly also some steam to escape the enraptured. Very mature indeed.

Mo'ne Davis made the news last summer. She's one of only a handful of girls to play in the LLWS, and the only African American Female to play in the LLWS, and the first girl to pitch a shutout. The news media has completely run with it. She was on the cover of SI. Disney is making a movie about her. In the words of Mo'ne, "I know people get tired of seeing me on TV."
