OT - Politico article about Evanston

Interesting. My mother grew up in Evanston, and I think her parents owned one car in their entire lifetime. Always took the bus, train or walked everywhere. Once in a while, they'd take a taxi if they had to go much west of Evanston. I remember Evanston and Glenview each having their own bus lines when I was a kid.

Good read. In a way, Evanston has become a microcosm of the urban/suburban divide, with Evanston's "suburbs" becoming the residential areas along Sheridan Rd and area west of Green Bay. But having a high density urban core attracts the consumer businesses that will bring Evanston's own suburbanites into the center. I see the same thing in East Lakeview, which I consider the most walkable and live able neighborhood in Chicago. Working from home now, I only drive on weekends to shlep the kid around.
