OT: Salaries

There's got to be a catch with Brian Kelly's - right? In the upper 60's ranking wise just over $1m. Fitzgerald ahead of both shaw and cutcliff too, which surprised me.

Likely he has a lot of extras like radio show, Under Armor money etc that gets him up a lot higher. Hard to know what real dollars are.

Heck Franklin is getting about twice what Fits is getting according to the chart. Sure seem to have some that are not getting what they are paying for. Charlie Strong is a pretty good example

Franklin getting even more that Kirk Ferentz who is the most senior B1G coach. Don't think Penn State is getting anywhere near their money's worth from Franklin, yet. Remains to be seen if they ever will. He must have a great agent to have worked that deal.

USA Today published the salaries for football coaches....Pat is #44. Pretty good value for money!
Yeah, excellent value...especially considering that over his EIGHTH and NINTH B1G seasons he averaged all of TWO B1G wins! Take that! And although he has never won 6 B1G games in any of his 9 season, he has managed to win 5 B1G games one third of his tries!!! (and 1 to 3 the rest).

And don't you ever forget that in the decade or so before his ascension, NU had only won THREE B1G crowns, and had gone 4-4, 5-3, and 5-3 in the B1G immediately before he took over.

But the best part is that most expect NU to be 1-1 in the B1G by this Saturday evening....this is shaping up like a magic B1G season!!!!...And since PF has not yet sniffed a B1G crown in 9 tries, he is overdue to get one soon...it may well be this season!!....
Haven't you heard that: "Tenth time's the charm"??

NU is obviously IMMENSELY lucky that PF is accepting to coach its FB program for a meager TWO AND A HALF MILLION a year!!!

But his best quality is ... LOYALTY...NU had better start paying him more, lest he is stolen away by someone who vales his loyalty more...You got someone good and loyal, you pay him more than anyone else would...you keep him for ever!!!....LOYALTY IS PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not surprising on Franklin

Not compared to Shaw and Cutcliffe.

There's got to be a catch with Brian Kelly's - right? In the upper 60's ranking wise just over $1m. Fitzgerald ahead of both shaw and cutcliff too, which surprised me.

Shaw has the 6th best win % (.778) all-time for Stanford coaches (3rd best for those who coached more than 20 games), better than Yost, Walter Camp, Bill Walsh and Harbaugh.

Sure, Shaw inherited a program that Harbaugh rebuilt but has won the PAC twice and the Rose Bowl; and it's not like Fitz hadn't inherited a program that had seen some pretty good success (a program that had won at least a share of the B1G title 3 times the decade before Fitz took over).

And for Cutcliffe, he had to built the Duke program from scratch and in over 7 seasons is 88-78 (22-36) and played for the ACC Championship once and finished 2nd in the Coastal another time (in comparison, Fitz is 65-53 and 31-42 in 9 seasons plus).

Phillips jumped the gun after the 2012 season due to the euphoria of a bowl win (not that Fitz didn't deserve some sort of raise, but at the same time, it's not the 'Cats had ever been in the running for a B1G title yet, much less the division).

But regardless, CFB HCs are grossly overpaid (that's what happens when the talent is cheap).

In the past decade, the avg. salary for HCs in major CFB has more than doubled.

Alvarez lets loose a long laugh. His last full season coaching Wisconsin football was 2005. USA TODAY Sports began tracking top-tier coaches’ salaries in 2006. The average compensation for head football coaches at 119 major colleges then was roughly $950,000. Today, at 128 Football Bowl Subdivision schools, it is up to just over $2 million.

Like I stated before, there are an ever increasing # of coaches making what NFL head coaches, get - heck, the top 10-15 getting paid more than what the lower-end NFL HCs get paid.

While I'm not quite in favor of the step Blank want to take, just shows how much of a slimeball that Dabbo Swinney was when he bemoaned the idea of extra benefits to players (yeah, he's the reason why 81,500 fans fill Memorial Stadium).

Blank, chancellor since 2013, has given the issue of coaches’ salaries a good deal of thought — and she offers a radical fix.

“Coaches are being paid, especially in a couple of big sports, increasingly like professional leagues,” she says. “It immediately raises the question of, ‘Why aren’t your athletes being paid similarly?’ If I could redo this, I would try to get some sort of antitrust exemption here and say, ‘We run a college sports program — and college sports programs are different. And we do have the right to cap salaries, given the salary levels that exist elsewhere around the university.’

I'm glad that UW isn't going all nuts in the arms-race for coaching compensation.

And it's not the just the Big 5 conferences due to TV $$.

Louisiania-Lafayette of the Sun Belt is paying its HC $1 mil+ w/ 5 other Sun Belt schools paying their coaches btwn $500k and $700k.

You never cease to amaze me. I am just not going to hold my breath waiting for you to say ANYTHING positive about the program. Moan, wine, piss.

Surprised it took you that long to jump on this thread.

Feli

What ever happened to 3-8-4-3-6-6-7-PF-2-3-5-5-3-3-5-1-3 (or whatever)?

I thought this was the basis on which coaches should be rated.

Probably stopped mentioning it when Feli realized Fitz has the highest big ten winning percentage between Barnett, Walker, & Fitz.
