If a band member wants to play in their Thanksgiving game, they have to chalk up $100 for the ticket. I hope this gets resolved. I'd like to see a booster from Texas (not Texas Tech) ponying up the money. Texas is not hurting for money and they look like greedy aholes.

There are currently 15,000 unsold tickets for this week's game against Rice, and the way things are going down there, the Tech game might reach a similar number.

Speaking of Rice, I saw a bowl projection yesterday that had NU playing Rice in something called the Heart of Texas bowl.......

Guess someone is projecting ahead to next year. The Big Ten does not have the Heart of Texas Bowl for this year if I recall correctly. Of course I guess there is the remote prospect that a Big 10 school could get an at large invite if their contractual conference for this year cannot fill the slot.

It was actually the Heart of Dallas Bowl, if that makes any difference.

Then we really could claim the 2015 1-A/FBS/National Championship Play-Off Division Nerd Cup by beating Rice, Duke and Stanford. But I'm hoping for a better bowl.

Texas has already driven Nebraska, Mizzou, Colorado and A&M out of that conference. I guess they just want to make sure they alienate absolutely everyone.

The story has been since updated that this was not decided unilaterally by Texas, but rather an agreed upon business agreement between all the schools involved. And its paid for by the University, not the band members. When I first read this I wondered if it was actually common practice to charge other schools' bands for the seats they occupy in the stadium. Turns out, it is. We probably do it too.

So, non-story.

is there any precedent for this? i'm curious as to what the usual arrangements are for this . . i would assume the intention to bring the band must be declared well in advance, since regardless of if they pay, they do take up seats that then can't be sold. (do schools ever say things like "we'll give you 200 seats, but not the full 283 that you requested for your band?")

I'm going to step out on a limb and posit that this is the first link to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal in the history of this board...

Years and years ago, when I was in high school, Penn State actually had a high school Band Day where they'd host school bands from all over the state for a game, usually not one of the games they considered top-drawer. That was in the pre-Paterno days when Beaver Stadium actually seated about the same number of persons as Ryan Field (neither end zone had seats). Obviously, that practice ended when the stadium became bigger and ticket prices became higher.
