OT: UConn Women

No parity in women's basketball. Virtually every first round NCAA game has been a blowout.

Not true. They could have scored 200 if he showed no mercy.
The other team jacked up 57 3's!!!!!!!! Long rebounds, layup lines, etc.
Not sure speeding up the game with UCONN made much sense. But it made plenty of history.
This guy would disagree with you and support my premise:
"Auriemma, in unleashing his superior players, exposed what dilutes his accomplishments — the disparity between the best and the rest in women’s basketball is so significant, they could use a mercy rule. Or a coach who knows how to show mercy."

Right you are! While I follow NU women's basketball quite faithfully, the women's game is really pretty boring. Actually, I believe I could take over at UConn for Auriema and have the same undefeated record. Not true on the men's side, though, where coaching make a significant difference.

Yes, in a given year you could. But Geno comes up with the best players year after year. Gotta give him credit for that. There are a few other good coaches in the Women's game but Geno dominates them.

Correct, but it's fairly easy to recruit the best players in the country to UConn. Sort of like when Pat Summit was at Tennessee. In any given year, there are maybe 3 women's teams in the country who could win the NCAA title other than UConn, but most of the time they don't. In the men's game, the coaches I like best are people like Bo Ryan and John B. at UM who can't recruit like Calipari or Mike K. but go a long way with no one and dones. (Go Ramblers!)

Dang!!! Agree!!!!!!!

Beilein is one hell of a coach. Collins was the last guy to beat him! Double Dang!!!

How was UConn before Geno got there? Just saying. Man deserves some credit.

That's what holds the women's game back. The level of play has dramatically improved over the years, but there still isn't the depth of standout players you get in the men's game. Programs such as Duke and Kentucky can get the best men's plalyers, but that doesn't mean they are anything like a lock to win the tourney. Also, the top women players are more likely to stay in school for several years as the money they can make playing pro ball pales beside that of the men.

I think it's irrelevant for women's basketball. SFPA didn't care whether it lost by 48 or 88, otherwise why come into the game with such a stupid plan of speeding up the pace by jacking up crazy shots? If THEY didn't care, I can't say I'm losing any sleep over it.

No Chores: I want to keep my streak alive of being non-offensive on this board. But, damn, this is a "hot take". Even presuming you are being facetious, the reality is that there is essentially no chance that the 20th best women's basketball coach in the country keeps that team undefeated.
