For those of us who couldn't watch last night, here's a 15-minute highlight package:

My overreactions:
  • Martinelli will lead the team in scoring this year
  • Martinelli throws a lot of over-the-shoulder passes
  • Leach has a great three-point stroke, but he'll also have a lot of games this year where he's like 3-for-14
  • Windham's stroke isn't as good, but he'll make up for it with his fearlessness
  • Hunger and Nicholson have some better moves, but they still need to be better finishers (Nicholson's missed dunk was embarrassing)
  • As usual, there will be a lot of wide-open three-point shots taken by NU's opponents
  • The team is pretty sloppy, but hey, it's a first game of the year and no Brooks! The person who made the highlight package is not in mid-season form yet either, as their definition of "highlights" is laughable (sometimes it's just a normal brick or a free throw).

Thanks for the link, I had a sudden family thing and couldn't go to the game - very sad for me missing the game after all this waiting.

I think we see NUs standard defense collapses leaving guys on the perimeter wide open if we can't stop that first outlet, they will get wide open shots. That seems to be a feature rather than a bug. Several of the lapses did seem to mostly be new guys still learning their positions, and that will improve - but so will the quality of opponent.

Lots of Cats getting blown past for easy layups which leaves me concerned for our speed/agility - almost always an NU weakness.

Leach shot well and I agree he'll have his 3-14 days because he'll keep shooting.

Nick looked pretty good. He's been working on those threes and looks awkward taking them, but hey as long as they go in. Teams probably shouldn't play off him this year.

Fitzmorris had some nice movement and hit a free throw with decent form. I could be pretty excited about a 7' guy with good FT % and some interior moves.

It was good to see the Cats pull away while most of the presumed starters were cheering from the bench.

Lewis has a 5'7" point guard (#2) who looked absolutely tiny out there. I cheered for him a bit.
