Pete Nance Story Link

How cool is that going to be next year, with the Nance family showing up for games at the new WR?

Well. If he doesn't go to the NBA he can do commentary. So can his brother.

I'm also not going to rule out Nance starting at the stretch four from Day One, though it's not highly likely. It's obvious that he needs to put on some weight to compete against the big boys, but with his ball skills and outside shot, he could still contribute right away while he's building up his body. Reminds me a little of Ingram at Duke, who as a freshman was a stick figure but was highly effective.

With Pardon, Nance, Law, Turner, and Lathon as starters, that is one long lineup. Two guys with nearly 7-foot wingspans, two 6-7 athletic wings, and a 6-4 lead guard. Kopp, Falzon, Gaines, Benson off the bench looks real good too.

Bump.

How is it this board isn't going insane over the video in the link?

He's 6 10" and plays all five positions. The only athlete I can remember with more promise is Sidd Finch.

Ed McCants once started at all 5 positions and had a quintuple double when we beat North Carolina.

McCants wasn't 6-10 either with the genes that Nance has. I don't know if it'll happen but all the talk of him growing to 7-0 makes him an even more intriguing prospect.

It was a shame when Finch hurt his arm, undoubtedly the greatest prospect of all time

Also Magic Johnson.

I completely agree. He may not be a star next year but I would be really surprised if he does not make a positive impact and play meaningful minutes. Yes, he's skinny but he's 6'10" and a good athlete. Being that tall and quick offsets being skinny. And he's a really skilled player. He has a higher ceiling than any player we have recruited since I have been following the team.

Skinny is really only a drawback if the player is also slow or has terrible foot work. Muscle and mass are great, but NU could really use a bit more of quick, nimble, agile, speedy, fleet, and possibly even adroit.

I have a buddy who coached in the same conference as Revere. He has seen a lot of talent come and go in Northeast Ohio: he claims that Pete is much further along as a high school senior than Larry Jr. was.

Skinny or not, I think he’s going to be a hell of a player for NU and will start sooner than we think. He is our best shot at replacing Lumpkin’s grittiness and tenacity, which the team sorely lacked this season. He’ll also be an incredible teammate if he’s anything like his father or brother.

The more that I see of Nance and Lathon the happier I become. Both guys are leading their teams in the state playoffs.

Lathon plays with a much better overall team with two other D-1 athletes (one hoops and one football) but he had 11pts/8rebs/12asts in an 81-45 sectional win. A teammate had 9 made 3s in the game. Collins and James were at this game.

Nance had 24 pts including at least 3-3s in his teams last second win. He assisted on the winning 3 that apparently banked in.

Miller Kopp is apparently done in Texas. Last posted score is the conference tourney in February (his team won) He shot 44% from 3 and 88% on FTs for the season.

Ryan Young's team is in the final 16 in PA 4A tourney.

Here is the District Championship win, first in school history.

Revere went into Cleveland and beat 4th seeded East Tech. The Scarabs are a storied high school program. Beating them on their home court is a danged tough accomplishment.

Here is a come-back win with some nice Nance action, both aroung the rim and from 3.

I don't know how gritty or tenacious he is but he's about 4 inches taller than Sanjay and that is a huge (no pun intended) difference. He's also a better shooter and passer than Sanjay. In addition to getting stronger, though, he will need to adjust to playing against players that are his size. It looks like he has understandably developed some bad habits against smaller teams where he just able to reach over them for rebounds. He seems like a smart kid with great fundamentals so I am guessing that he makes that adjustment in his freshman year. And how cool is it to see him leading a fast break, blocking shots, posting up, making great passes and hitting 3's. He's 6'9" plus!

He looked good! So did his point guard.

Good points. I guess I was also projecting his father’s all-NBA defense selections (grit) and his brother battling every night against 7 foot centers - while clearly undersized at the 5 - for the Cavaliers (tenacity) onto Pete.

I hope it’s not unfair - I have high hopes of him and Pardon dominating the post next year.

He’s already caught the attention of LeBron: Larry Jr and the Chosen One are Wagering on the playoff game between Revere and the Akron SVSM:

Very cool. Gonna be a tough game for Revere, SVSM beat Tallmadge 81-44 while Revere struggled to beat the same school by a couple. Also making the Regional Semi's is Dererk's school, Angelina St. Joes.

Go Minutemen!!

It was a rough game for sure.

Revere was held scoreless in the first quarter, trailing 17-0. They went on to lose 57-41. Nance had 9 points, 10 boards and 6 blocks.

“Our game plan was to take Pete Nance and Samson Albert out of the game and let the rest of the players kind of try and beat us,” said Walter, who also had eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. “We did that in the first quarter, which helped us build a lead to sustain us for the rest of the game.”

The Minutemen broke into the scoring column when Nance made a free throw with 7:30 to go in the second quarter. Nance made Revere’s first field goal with 5:00 left in the second quarter.

SVSM plays Angelina St. Joes, Pardon's old school.
