Players pull out of B1G media days

Agree...odds were not in their favor to get out of the next few days unscathed...lots of journalists looking to play gotcha. They may still have a field day with Braun.

Gosh, I hope Braun gets the opportunity to trash Gragg and Schill, and takes it.

Good for the players and good for Braun for supporting them. I like the reference to their parents — it underscores that we’re still basically cheering for kids (okay, young adults).

It’s gonna be a real hard year for these players.

I think (hope) once the season gets rolling that their focus is on the field just like any season. Most of these players suffered through 1-11 and I'm sure are eager for some redemption. I don't actually think this will be an interesting story to the media by October.

Forget about positive coverage no matter how the team plays. The media have already judged that these players perpetuated terrible hazing. They will not be seen sympathetically by the public.

Good on our senior reps and Coach Braun for supporting them.
Gotta feeling Coach Braun will represent the program with dignity ang class tomorrow.

For a first time coach trying to deal with an clusterf**k situation, he done good! Definitely shows more leadership skills than the two boneheads upstream from him.

Good job coach. And, oh yeah, kick some ass this season!

it's early. but i'm willing to give Coach DB the benefit of the doubt. it would quite remarkable if he is able to hold this team together and find some common ground. he has a big and difficult test tomorrow at 11:30am ET. but the more enormous test comes after that- whether he can appeal to and connect with a locker room that just lost their head coach after that. my base case is that we will want to find someone else, but i would like to give Coach Braun a chance.

"after talking with our parents, our teammates and coach Braun."

pretty clear how they prioritize their obligations. (No mention of Schill or Gragg.)
This is the type of young man Fitzgerald recruited - solid, upstanding guys who dedicated themselves to an excellent program.

He also recruited hazing lunatics or liars, depending on which posters you listen to.

Right. My daughter attends Northwestern. She has not reported any lunatics, at least among the student body.

I think its safe to say that there are plenty of liars. It the vindictive liars that stand out.

A lot of people on this board attended Northwestern. Based on this sample, I guarantee there is a good share of lunatics.

There is no way the players could appear and take questions. They would immediately be asked about their awareness of and/or participation in hazing. This would potentially open them up to lawsuits and expulsion from Northwestern. They're all going to be asked to participate in the Title IX inquiry anyways. No win situation for the players.

Definitely a no-win and possible huge loss for the players.
Makes you wonder why the university was so willing to send them out there...
Right?

I'm not sure what you are implying here, but the players are going to be interviewed after every game this season. They are certainly not going to answer any questions about hazing.
