1. We're still fighting a perception battle at times. I cringed when reference was made by TOS to the "surprise" factor of Martinez taking an official to NU. Just because he has so many options. Old perceptions die hard.
2. X Mueller passes the eye ball test with flying colors. How do guys like that fall through the internet recruiting cracks? We more than likely could have slow played him and didn't. Nuff said. Excited to see his progress.
3. Staying with the eye ball theme, the last time I saw an OLM with no waist Chris Hinton was destroying opponents at NU and in the NFL. Skoronski has no waist. Priebe looks exactly like Matt O'Dwyer at the same age. Large and lean. Wrather is the closest thing to BIG Z we have seen since ... well ... Big Z. I can see him playing at 6-6 325 lbs.
4. You know you're recruiting the right kids when they see all the bling NU and Chicago have to offer but emphasize the great people at NU as the best part of their recruiting weekend.
5. The bling and the on field success matter ... a lot. Without it we're not even in the conversation with many of these prospects.
6. Thank you Morty. For lots of things sports and academically related. But especially for taking the time to share your passion for the NU student athlete experience with the prospects and their families. It makes a difference with people who have attractive options. Your participation in recruiting is part of what makes NU unique. Being unique is good.
7. The current geographic reach of this program is amazing. Top academically minded prospects from coast to coast are genuinely interested.
8. All appears quiet on the Maldanado front. Did he make it in?
9. Wiltfong was asked whether NU was now the Stanford of the Midwest. That's the kind of narrative we want. Best part of his answer was that NU beat Stanford the last time they played and has not topped out on what it can be. He's right.
10. Several of our top prospects from this weekend will likely have to decide on NU before taking all their visits. The process and small class size will condense their time frame. I believe that's to NU's advantage. Other options you know less about can vanish in a moment. Commit when you find a place that feels like home and makes Mom happy and proud.
