I think a lot will depend on the weather. I'm not saying Sanford fans are fair weather fans but you know tickets will be available at the last minute and the game is the number one 11:00 am game on ESPN so people have access to the game either way. If the long range forecast is for a beautiful day there will be may more "visitors" who will take in the game as an event as much as a football game.

I don't know how much publicity they do for individual games on tv or radio but this game would merit and lend itself to some extra high profile event publicity. Too late now but a coast to coast, beach weather (parody?) theme plus Stanford's ranking and name recognition coupled with the likely possibility of nice weather this time of year. It is the opening of the season, there should be some hunger for football and some good habits could get started.

Usually the first game of the season isn't well attended, and considering that Stanford is 2,000 miles away, I would be surprised if we get 28,000.

NU drew 32,000 for a Cal team last year which was coming off a 1-11 record. 38,000 can for Syracuse in 2013. They drew 31,600 for Vandy in 2012. Got to believe that if the weather is half decent they will draw at least that many for Stanford.

I hope so.

Paid will likely be over 30K. Actual will be much less, probably less than 20K.
I was going for paid, since that's what gets reported for comparison purposes. It's never that high, but a 10K+ gap seems pretty high.
