Since we are only 4 days away from the season starting. What is everyone's prediction for the first play on offense from scrimmage? I would love something aggressive like the shovel pass to Vitale against Cal two years ago, however that did get Kain knocked out of the game.

Inside zone QB read with a WR screen option.

I'll take outside zone with Jackson.

Do you guys not pay attention to anything our coach says?? The correct answer, of course, is:

We'll see how that plays out.

Play action into a wide receiver screen.

Red Right 88.

I like the Shuler bomb. There's some karma in that since he apparently was a Harbaugh recruit coming out of high school.

Is it Spider 2 Y Banana? I thought it was Spider 2 Wide Banana. Like a Spider play with 2 wide receivers and the full back runs a banana route.

Y Banana is the route combination with the "Y" receiver (tight end in this case, but not always) running a "Banana" route (like a rounded off corner route).

Andrew Luck knew what Spider 2 Y Banana was in his interview with Gruden. Could be a Stanford thing, so I am backing off my prediction.

Handoff to Jackson.

I change my vote. It's one of these options:

The Annexation of Puerto Rico
Chicken Little Flea Flicker
Split Left Hook and Ladder
Two Jet X Drive
Split Right Fake 28 Sweep
24 Inside Slot Left Blue Lightning
Fake 23 Blast with a backside George Reverse like your life depended on it.

Those are the final plays from:
Little Giants
Little Giants (not final play)
Varsity Blues
The Replacements
Necessary Roughness
The Program
Remember the Titans

To be frank without being sarcastic, whatever it is it should involve Thorson throwing the football. This game I believe will hinge on McCall getting Clayton into a confident passing rhythm early. I'm frankly a little concerned with him running option and zone read. He is a tall and lanky guy who will be an easy target for a linebacker to hammer. I like all the running, especially with Jackson, Long and Anderson, but as I mentioned this game hinges on Thorson's ability to throw accurately and even better to execute the mid-level passes down field. I believe if he can do that and throw for over 200 yds. we can win this game.

A simple handoff to JJ. Almost guaranteed, in my opinion. We have a QB who's never taken a snap in a college game. Don't get cute. Give him an easy place to start, let him catch his breath, then shake off the jitters and get to work.

44 line buck. That's the play Chris Farley called when he was in the booth during an NU - UW game.

As much as we'd love the razzle dazzle or long bomb that Stanford would never expect, I figure we'll do this too. Thorson can get used to game speed while we also utilize our top weapon at the same time.

Victory Right , perhaps?

(Writing 'victory right?' did not read as intended)

NU uses the delayed handoff 90% of the time on the first play. so that will be I, probably for no gain. Next play the hook and ladder for TD!

The real question to me is what we call on second down. Assume it's 2nd and 8. I think at that point McCall calls a quick pass and it goes to C. Jones, either as an out to the sideline or a quick slant across the middle. Six yard pick up makes it 3rd and 2, and we run JJ again.

Is it Saturday yet?

Draw play, for -1 yard. Fools no one. (I hope not)

Everyone is so amped up on the first couple of plays, I wonder if you could get them to bite on a hand off to Jackson and throw to one of the lesser known WRs. I don't think any speed plays will work because everyone will be at 110% speed wise. Or start with a two back set and then throw to the SB.

Either a faked or errant fumble that gets picked up by another Wildcat which advances the ball, if not leading to a Northwestern touchdown.
