Wow, this is just odd.Came out to the tribune with cries of how negatively the program affected him that he was too traumatized to even watch football. But forgot to delete his tweets when he decided to come up with this new story...
It’s horrendous journalism. Anyone who has run anything relating to Ramon Diaz in the last couple of days is a joke and it makes you question the validity of their anonymous sources. And to be clear, this is not saying the other sources aren’t talking about real things that happened. Cause I think a lot of this stuff is true to a degree. But Ramon Diaz? Really? The guy who said he was diagnosed with PTSD due to NU football, couldn’t watch football for five years after playing at NU, and still goes to therapy due to what he experienced…but also has had SEVERAL posts on HIS OWN social media within the last five years talking about how great the NU program is and how much Fitz effected his life in a positive way. Talked about how great the NU culture is and how he loves participating in events with the program.NBC just aired a segment of him. You cannot make this stuff up.

Yep, what a great source who deserves a national platform. What’s even funnier is that all these journalists love to pat each other on the back for “great journalism” (the amount of times I’ve heard that in the last few days about different reporters related to this is through the roof). They just love to tell each other how great they are…yet they can’t even execute simple journalism 101 and properly vet a source that includes a 30-second Google search.
Can’t wait until the Pullitzer is awarded. Cause it will be. You can bet on it.
Fair that mental and emotional health are complicated. Zero argument and not something to joke about.Mental & emotional health are incredibly complicated.
I didn’t watch the video with Diaz. But his claims in the Daily have merit, and our program clearly has major issues.
Buckle up. This will be a bumpy ride.
Probably because he’s an opportunist that decided to pile on and saw the opportunity to get some publicity for himself. I don’t think it’s that complicated. People are people… humans are nothing if not self interested (well that’s a slight exaggeration but you get the idea)Fair that mental and emotional health are complicated. Zero argument and not something to joke about.
But help me understand how a guy whose experience was THAT bad (PTSD, couldn’t watch football for five years cause his experience was so bad, etc.) also has such wonderful things to say specifically about the NU football program, culture, and coach Fitzgerald. I mean, these are his words on his own social media platforms. He’s not backed into a corner to say anything. He’s making a decision to put that stuff out there.
Sorry, but those two things can’t coexist in my world.
That's totally fair. And I realize that with my stance on this I come off like a total insensitive prick. And that bothers me - I was actually talking to my wife about it last night. I do not like questioning someone who is saying they have experienced things like this.I can tell you all that in my life I have concluded I have had a fair amount of instances of people being racist towards me. And for many years I found explanations for the odd behaviors elsewhere, other than in racism.
So, for me, and not saying there are no other dynamics at play here, if a dude like Ramon talks, I listen.
This is fair. And something that, despite being almost 50 yo, I have only really matured on over the last 10 years. I don't dismiss anyone's claims of trauma. Often, even if the claims end up being bullshit to me, there is still a chance the person claiming them feels them deeply. That's totally fair. Sure he encountered it but I’ve got news for them, racism exists in the world and NU is going to have its share of racist just any other organization out there. I do know that FItz is not racist and he doesn’t condone racism. I also know if Diaz experienced something that bothered him, he should spoken up then. How can FItz do anything about it if he doesn’t know about the issue? The expectation that he shouldn’t have been exposed to any racism while at NU is unrealistic and reflective of a generation unable to deal with any adversity.I'm willing to say he DID encounter it. However the impact it had on him per the interview is at odds with the tweet praising Fitz and the program. Opposite ends of the spectrum.
Why do any of us presume we know anything about Pat Fitzgerald?
First I've heard of it.I know that he owns a house in Northfield.
Mansion, dude, mansion.I know that he owns a house in Northfield.
This made me legitimately laugh out loud Villox. Thanks for that one.I know that he owns a house in Northfield.
First thing my wife did upon hearing of this scandal was send me the zillow link of the place. 10,000 sq ft. Not too shabby.Mansion, dude, mansion.

Because rich people are always guilty of something?
Of course not. Just a consequence of my wife's instincts on what she's interested in. Kind of like how she likes reality TV and I find it abhorrent.Because rich people are always guilty of something?
Yes, having more money than me. Is it a crime? No. But they guilty as heckBecause rich people are always guilty of something?
I thought about posting on here yesterday that there was a mansion in Northfield about to hit the market, but I figured it was too soon and didn't pull the trigger.😅First thing my wife did upon hearing of this scandal was send me the zillow link of the place. 10,000 sq ft. Not too shabby.
