My sense that one result of the interviews with those involved in the scandal (players, coaches & staff) and investigative report(s) will be that detailed views of the football program will emerge, I suspect those with with authority (regents & top non-AD types like faculty senate members) will learn more about the inner workings of athletics than they ever thought. Don’t underestimate the impact the faculty senate on dealing with this mess might have moving forward, This could lead to a broader deep discussion among these 2 groups about the status of our athletic program and overall fundraising priorities. A lot of money is going to be spent on this matter in various ways including attorney fees, payouts, etc and the revenue/fundraising side may be adversely impacted at least in the short term. I think we have already seen responses from some regents. I recently met the regent for SoCal at a social event nearby in my community. I have some confidence in the role regents and faculty might have in this- it’s just going to be such a challenging time for NU and those in leadership as the university struggles with damage control from the fallout.
