I would imagine that Pat Fitzgerald WANTS Braun to be the coach for a variety of very logical reasons. When Fitz was fired, it was clear that every member of the coaching staff related to Fitz’s tenure at NU would be gone at the end of the season, with the possible exception of Braun and maybe Smith. Braun staying therefore serves to continue Fitz’s legacy, especially when his coaching tree is pretty barren. And Braun stays in touch with and is a friend of Fitz and his family. Hes said it’s because Fitz is the parent of someone in the program but let’s be real: Braun is working with Fitz for advice and mentorship.

The fact that members of Fitz’s family are supporting Braun becoming HC isn’t at all surprising.

Awesome to see all the tags from Freshmen as well as grad transfers who won’t even be here next year. I would say that’s a pretty big endorsement. And a sign that a lot of guys could leave if he’s not retained, unless there is a total home run hire and/or Braun was retained as DC under a legendary sort of mentor coach.

It's been true all season, the team hasn't ever looked like it quit.

Players want him to be HC and he's pretty much done enough to earn the job.

It's an easy decision... but I don't think anybody here has faith in the administration to do even something that should be this obvious.
