We've had a couple posters share Riley's ridiculous numbers from his season opener (19 carries for 313 yards and 6 TDs to go with 9-15 passing for another 130 yards before being pulled in the third quarter). The numbers are mind-boggling but, through the wonders of technology, we can see for ourselves how he got it done. Highlights from the season opener have popped up on Riley's Hudl page.

Star ratings be damned (as always, but I digress), he has some of the most fun tape to watch in the class of 2016... and really some of the most fun film I've seen in a while. He's just such a dynamic athlete with the ball in his hands and is athletic enough to pass the ball at the high school level. He has some WR in his past, so I'm hoping he can transition quickly to contribute at Northwestern.

Watch the tape.

Do it.

Seriously.

It's a lot of fun.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with him. He seems much too talented to have him only as a WR who might touch the ball 3-5 times a game.

I'm guessing Elk Grove isn't very good, but man does he look confident out there. I'm not even talking about his arm/legs, which both make me happy. He just looks like he knows that he's the best player on the field (which is probably true). I like it.

A guy with that level of athleticism will be able to help on special teams as well as offense, be it returning and/or covering kicks.

Agreed. He is positively Fuesselesque. More than any recruit in the past few years, I was looking forward to seeing Fuessel play, especially after Fitz referred to him as Tommy Football. Riley looks like a shorter version of him. His tape also reminds me a little of Kain's high school tape, although he might actually be faster (but probably not quite as quick).

I feel pretty safe saying that Riley is faster and every bit as quick as Kain.

If that's true, we need to get this kid the football a lot. Kain could make a lot of great athletes miss. We need more playmakers at wide receiver. He and Roberts can hopefully turn some short passes into long gains.

I was more impressed by his offensive line. The holes he ran though were massive. The combination of a good line and terrible defending make it hard to assess how good Riley is, other than to say he looked like the best athlete on the field that night.

For the record, Libertyville is 7A and they generally play strong competition in non conf

So he is not dominating scrubs, he is dominating decent HS level competition

While Libertyville and Elk Grove are indeed relatively "big school" football in Illinois and with the caveat that high school teams can improve or get worse VERY easily over the course of one offseason... Elk Grove is coming off of an 0-9 season in which they were outscored 91-236. Not the best competition that Riley will face all year, but doesn't take away from the dynamic athleticism and speed on the video.

I'm tentatively planning on getting out to see him play at Stevenson the last week of September. That's a definite step up from Elk Grove, and it'll be interesting to see how he looks there.

That does sound tempting. Stop by the tailgate Saturday and we'll talk.

He won't scare anyone throwing the football, but man can he run. Great moves, fantastic speed and super endurance because some of those he scrambles and then runs a long way. I also agree about Fuessel, I am very glad he's ok but very sad that he had to give up football.
