If you want to honor a dead guy... Spell his name correctly! Its Uecker!
Uecker was the backup catcher to Tim McCarver for the 1964 World Series champs - the Saint Louis Cardinals.
The Cardinals hadn't won a pennant since 1946, so that team was revered in Saint Louis.
McCarver went on to a long career in broadcasting, working 23 World Series.
Uecker called Brewers games for 54 years.
Their teammate, Mike Shannon, went on to call Cardinals games for 40 years.
The Cardinals broadcast team at that time was Jack Buck and Harry Caray.
Harry Caray died in 1998. Jack Buck died in 2002. Shannon and McCarver died in 2023.
Prior to the 2nd game of the 1964 World Series against the Yankees, Uecker shagged fly balls with a tuba. He didn't play in any of the 7 games.
The dents are quite visible.
