I don't think the loss is nearly as egregious as it appears, given the circumstances. Because Isaiah Brown is apparently toxic, Ash was out, and Rap is out, we were down three players going in, and perilously thin at G. The Mac goes down. So Lindsey has to shoulder the offensive facilitator load, and he delivers, and then runs out of gas. They double Pardon, and Gaines has his hands full chasing Sanders all second half, so he gets tired. Skelley is a cave man on offense, so that craps out.
It was pretty much a perfect storm. We should have won, but I cannot really fault the effort. I think the whole team ran out of gas. The game was about 30 seconds too long. Give credit to Sanders for his shooting.
If I hadn't have watched the game, I might agree with you. On paper, you could convince yourself its ok. But watching that game, you recall several specific instances where we just collapsed. It was the way we lost that was most disappointing.I don't think the loss is nearly as egregious as it appears, given the circumstances. It’s amazing how athletic performance diminishes with fatigue, especially with college kids. Decision making also suffers when you are gassed. If I hadn't have watched the game, I might agree with you. On paper, you could convince yourself its ok. I'm not saying the players should get the death penalty for losing a basketball game. I'm just saying its disappointing. It’s amazing how athletic performance diminishes with fatigue, especially with college kids. Decision making also suffers when you are gassed.
Well, it IS our board. Not like these people are trolling the RU board, if there even is one. Maybe Freeman should have just shot some naked FT's and been allowed to play. That's how RU rocked in the past.....Wow.. a lot of condescension from a board for a school with exactly one NCAA appearance in your history.
Rutgers did not play their 2nd best scorer and best rebounder in Freeman and had two guys just returning from really bad injuries.
What did you expect to find after a game like that? Just walk in our boots for a minute. If you expect nothing but stories of dolphins and unicorns about RU on opposing fan base boards, you might wait until you start shaving regularly before venturing around B10 boards.Didn't read the internet etiquette about going on other teams boards sorry.. Just an observation that's all. I expect such condescension from fans of other schools.. but Northwestern??? Best of luck the rest of the way.
I would not say that Isiah Brown is toxic. I would say that Collins has a huge stubborn streak (See Doug Collins' history and some posters would mention his handling of a player who was removed from squad) and it cost them a game last night as Lindsey committed costly turnovers down the stretch and no one had the quickness to come close to stopping Sanders. Also, a box and one would have been a good idea with Gaines chasing after Sanders all over the court and taken the ball out of Sanders hands. Last year, we won a tight game against Rutgers, if my memory serves me correctly, because of a couple of key buckets by Brown, but this year he is a person non grata. The lack of consistent minutes for the bench players slows down development and has definitely hurt our sophomore class of Brown and Benson and our freshman class of Gaines. So in effect, we have two years of recruits who have not contributed much to the cause. Also, Skelly's inability to close out on defense without fouling cost NU big time last night. Overall, some questions have sprouted with this coaching staff and maybe the influx of talent will answer those questions, but for now, fans like me, are left scratching my head.
