Pretty interesting article with insights on how revenue is distributed and the “points system” which I wasn’t aware. Some options are SDSU joining esp after their NCAA tourney run, Gonzaga as basketball only member and maybe SMU.

I was totally unaware of the rules of how revenues are distributed and how conference realignment might be impacted. It appears revenues generated by UCLA will remain with the PAC12 and those by SDSU will remain with the Mountain West.

“Based on the NCAA’s revenue distribution model, those units will carry a value of more than $11 million over the six-year payout cycle. Also, they would remain with the Mountain West in the event the Aztecs switch leagues.

(Each unit represents a game played, with the championship excluded from the formula.)

Over that same timespan, only one Pac-12 school has collected more than SDSU’s eight units: UCLA has 13, and they will remain with the conference once the Bruins depart for the Big Ten.

In fact, SDSU has more NCAA units over the past five tournaments than Cal, Stanford, Utah, Washington State, Washington and Colorado combined.

And those generated by FAU (which is bolding for the American) will remain in Conference USA.

How many HS prospects and TV eyes are there in Nevada compared to Texas
How many eyes in Texas actually care about SMU?

I will say that SMU is stronger in football and basketball since leaving the WAC. But in terms of fan support, they would probably rank about 7th or 8th in the state of Texas, well behind Texas, A&M, Tech, Baylor, TCU, Houston... The PAC stooping to SMU as their school two time zones away smacks of desperation.

What they do have going for them is some wealthy boosters.

SDSU makes a lot of sense. I has a very similar profile to Arizona State.

There are 34 million people in Texas and 3 million in Nevada-where would the PAC Network rather have access?

You have my opinion. I don't think SMU will drive that much demand in Texas for the PAC Network (if there is such a thing?). They're already paying for the Longhorn Network and the SEC Network.

Longhorn network goes away once they move to the SEC.

Like I've stated before, horrible leadership by the PAC commishes.

Should have raided the B12 when they had the chance or failing that, should have added Houston (and maybe BYU) before the B12 got hold of them.

Yes, there is a PAC12 network. On Comcast in Houston it's unavailable but there's a sports bar in town where I've gone to see conference games. Hard to imagine how the network will survive or generate checks to member schools after USC & UCLA (among others?) depart.
