Skip article on O-Line

If the oline is 7 or better in the big ten we win 8'games this year. Worse than and we might win 4

I want to think or hope this Oline will be like the 2012 Oline
Mogus =netter
North= Brandon V
Mertz= dieters
Olson= konopka
Park/frazier= mulroe

Wishful thinking I know!!!!

Aren't chop blocks illegal, and generally very dangerous?

Not illegal if executed correctly, but I'm a little confused about the focus on chop blocks. While it is a great way to tire out (and piss off) defensive linemen, I'm not sure how it is "playing tough."

Yes, I thought that was less than ideal. Perhaps they could have gone with "Saw-portunities".
I like the whole article and that's exactly what they are going to do. It's not illegal, what he is saying. I'm telling you we are going to kick some Cardinal butt. Not because of how they are talking but I like the plan and they are not going to be limiting the playbook either due to Thorson. They have confidence in him and he the playbook is NOT going to be limited. As most know by now, Fitz isn't playing conservative with redshirts either, he will be burning shirts and being very aggressive this year.

Is it some expression, or do they mean it literally?

It's good to hear that line wants to be more physical, which is conducive to a running game, but I am always skeptical of offseason reports of improved play. Do it on the field.

Exactly. [Insert Mike Tyson quote]

Yes, and It is really kind of discouraging that they were so lackadaisical last year. To me that is a failure of coaches inspiring and supervising players.

When the O-Line players were referring to "chopping" their opponents, I don't think they were using that term in reference to the illegal chop block. I also think that Myslenski made too much of a big deal about it. I believe the players were really describing a cut block.

There's a BIG difference between an illegal "Chop Block" and a "Cut Block".

A chop block occurs when an offensive player is engaged above the waist with a defensive player and then a second offensive player (illegally) attempts to cut (block) the defender at thigh level or below. Imagine yourself being engaged with someone above the waist and then a second attacker dives at your knees from the side. MCL, PCL, ACL anyone? This block is, at times, a legal block in the NFL. I don't think it is ever legal in NCAA football, although I may be wrong here.

A cut block is basically hitting the defensive player at the knees. Option teams like Air Force, Army, Georga Southern use this style of blocking on most downs as they run the triple option. It is still legal to cut an opponent. As far as I know, always has been.

Let's start with the positive:

Olson beat konopka for the job last year so Olson > konopka

For the rest:
Going into 2012 Brandon Vitable had 13 starts under his belt and was on the rimmington watch list. While that's not really anything to be proud of a player that is in a position battle cannot be = to a guy that won the job from a 3 year starter a year before.

You mean Ward= Mogus. While I think it's not a bad comparison, Ward did have starts at RT which is closer to LT than being a guard.

I see the Mertz Dieters comparison of being huge tackles that moved to Guard but Dieters had game experience and lacked injury issues Mertz has less experience and lots of injuries.

Park/Frazier=Mulroe. No. Not if its Frazier not close if it's Park. I love wearing my purple sunglasses but let's get real. Mulroe was a 3rd-4th round draft pick but decided to pick a different profession. And he was a senior in the year discussed so he's what we hope Park turns into not what he is now.

This all assumes normal development based off the end of last season. I'm hoping to be surprised to but let's not put equal signs like Alviti=Persa and Thorson>both! There is no basis for that
