The two best OT's in the upcoming draft are Rashawn and Penei Sewell. The OU man had his pro day today, and here is a comparison of measurable to the NU man:

Sewell
6'5" 331#
40. 5.08
Bench 30

Slater
6'4" 304#
40. 4.88
Bench 33

I'd say Rashawn looks every bit as good in short pants as Penei. Maybe even better.

Slater has good numbers for a guard who can play tackle where he excelled in the Big and as advertised could fill in any where on the line. Sewell is a tackle. I think at 5 Bengals go Sewell but the team getting Slater at 12 to 15 gets the better value. If Bengals could trade down and get a mid 2nd round pick and Slater it would be ideal for them. Slater sure represents NU well. Bengals mentioned the most for both.

The Bengals rarely move up or down to maximize their draft leverage.

And this is the franchise that made John Ross a top 10 pick.

2010: Jermaine Gresham #21 Oklahoma TE Bust
2011: A.J. Green #4 Georgia WR Star
2012: Dre Kirkpatrick #17 Alabama CB Bust
2012: Kevin Zeitler #27 Wisconsin OL Solid
2013: Tyler Eifert #21 Notre Dame TE Medical Bust
2014: Darqueze Dennard #24 MSU CB Bust
2015: Cedric Ogbuehi #21 Texas A&M OT Bust
2016: William Jackson #24 Houston CB Bust
2017: John Ross #9 Washington WR Bust
2018: Billy Price #21 OSU OC Bust
2019: Jonah Williams #11 Alabama OT Solid when healthy
2010: Joe Burrow #1 LSU QB Star

That's just 2 stars in their last 12 1st round picks. With 8 busts and 2 solid NFL contributors.

Only 3 of these elite draft picks remain with the team today.

How to build a loser 101. The Bengals have it down pat.

The Bengals have certainly struggled with their first round selections, but I wouldn’t throw William Jackson III the bust category. He may not be the potential all pro he looked like as a rookie, but the guy is a solid, if not excellent starting cornerback.

I think the Bengals are taking WR Chase, Burrow’s LSU teammate.

That’s why I really hope Slater doesn’t end up there.

So painful.

They have a no-lose choice between Sewell, Chase or Pitts. I’m just waiting for them to pick none of those and totally screw this up.

Aren't you thinking of Pace and the Bears?
Pace is too busy trying to plot how much he can give up to move up 2-3 slots in the 2nd round in order to get an under-developed D2 tight end that has a lot of potential. He hasn't actually thought much about how to use the #20 pick yet, we will get to that later when the time comes. Priorities.

Reading some of these draft analyses, you’d think Slater was a foot shorter than Sewell ... not 5/8 of an inch.
Arm length is more important for an OT and they’re the same.

If Slater had played and stayed healthy last season... there would be no debate.

Maybe? Him and Sewell are basically in the same spot as both opted out of last season.

You can say the same if Sewell played, Slater sat, and the Duck didn't quack under pressure

Only really 2 things Sewell has over Slater.

More mass.

Younger by 1.5 years.
