So, if/when the Cats’ season is over, who’s your team?

Got my first look at Loyola yesterday and was impressed with their scrappiness. And Custer reminds me of McIntosh. Is there any reason to dislike the Ramblers? Ok, hearing nothing, I’m going with the neighbors down the Red Line. Btw, I have heard that Loyola’s title game in ‘63 was not televised in Chicago: the state high school championship was televised instead.

Shout out to LoyolaCat!!

For NU purposes, I hate to see local competition do well, but it's so hard to dislike Loyola. They're also a program that seems like they try to do things the right way, much to their detriment over many years.

How can you not like Sister Jean? Also, Porter Moser seems like a good guy.

So the Ramblers are 25-5 with a top-35 RPI. LoyolaCat, what are the chances they get the ISU treatment if they don't win the MVC tourney?

Will be interesting if they don’t win the MVC. I think they’d still get in though. That win at then #5 Florida is a really nice feather in the cap.

I went to one college basketball game this year and it was Loyola @ Drake (Drake is less than two miles from my house). It was clear from the start that Loyola was better, but Drake hung with them. Game was tied 51-51 with about eight minutes left and then Loyola just exploded and went on something like a 29-6 run to end the game to win in a runaway blowout. When they play to their ability, they’re a tourney team in my opinion.

Seem to remember that it was on tape delay.

.I was 11 when the Ramblers won...my brother was at LU and would send me articles from the Chicago papers...and I would listen to Red Rush on the radio. You are correct that the game was not live....I was at my Grandmas in Arthur Illinois....No way to know if they won or lost...no radio reception. So she let me stay up for the replay and it wasnt until after midnight that I knew they had won.How things have changed.
I think NU and LU are two schools trying to do it correctly. Obviously I want LU to get a bid but so hard to compare and figure out where they would end up in say the Atlantic 10 or the Big 10. but they play great basketball. Yesterday they were over amped..You would hope they get rewarded for how their athletes have performed academically ....I did ask the AD yesterday what he thought. He seemed to think that the present scandal in college basketball might increase their chances. Strength of Schedule will work against them but two schools one North Carolina State(backed out of a contract) and Wichita State (left the conference) would have given them a much better SOS...hard for mid majors to build a good SOS. As for the Valley Tournament there are probably 5 teams that could win. Anyway got my fingers crossed. Lets hope The Wildcats set NYC on fire....and we get two Chicago teams in.....I think a rising tide floats all boats....I remember when Chicago was big enough for 4 teams....Hope it happens again.

Loyola became my second favorite team after that 63' run. Also remember the games they which helped break the prejudice against black players, even if Rupp and some others constantly fought back. Good for them and hope they get in the "Tournament" and make some noise.

To answer the question of the thread...NU football spring game.

Actually hoping for Toledo, my wife's Alma Mater and my hometown

My vote is for NU Women's Lacrosse. I just returned from our decisive 9-5 victory over Southern Cal. We could be ranked in the top 10 this week. For those of you in the area, this is the best game in town right now. Great venue, atmosphere, and a revitalized team.

As far as basketball, yeah, Loyola is now my local favorite to progress in March. And L-Cat, I used to listen to Red Rush do pxp for the Ramblers back in '65-'66 when they were ranked in the top 10 for most of the season, without a player over 6' 5". My two favorite Rush-isms: "Swisheroo-- it's through for two!"
"It's swella, fella, just like Gonella!"

Loyola=good people. Went to the Drake-Loyola game here a couple of weeks ago and came away impressed. Moser is a good guy who got screwed by Illinois State who got too big for their britches when they fired him (Bet they are sorry now!) And like NU, you have to go to class to play at Loyola.

How did he get screwed by ISU? He was 22-50 in conference for 4 seasons. He had the lowest or one of the lowest win percentages in the history of the School. I am no Dan Muller fan, but both Porter and ISU needed a change.

Do not know all the facts.....and you certainly cant argue the record which gave ISU the opening to let him go....the other side I hear is that his first year he was hired to late to recruit and that Jankovich the year after Moser was fired won 25 and then 24 with what were realistically the first Moser recruiting class. But they love their basketball in Bloomington and without not even a top half finish in the Valley put him on the chopping block. It is going to be interesting to see what happens to the Valley now that they have lost essentially their top 3 teams in St. Louis, Creighton and WIchita State . Loyola is not popular in the Valley, It is kind of country mouse, city mouse thing plus the Valley has a separate football conference with many of the schools not in the basketball conference. Coach Moser is being mentioned for a lot of openings ..but I think he will stay at LU. He lives in WIlmette , belongs to Francis Xavier parish . Has two boys at Loyola Academy and two in school....and I think like Chris Collins.loyalty and hometown is important.

I hope he stays at Loyola. Seems like a good dude.

Saint Louis hasn’t been in the MVC for 50 years. MVC is #8 RPI league behind the P6 and AAC.

MVC seems like a perfect fit for Loyola in competitiveness and geography. Plus they’re split evenly with 5 publics 5 privates. This year’s senior class would be Loyola’s first recruiting class since upgrading from Horizon to MVC. That move helped resurrect their program.

The whole Sister Jean story is fascinating. What an unbelievably dedicated fan!

Wish NU played this season at Loyola!

Houston Rockets, baby! Best team in the NBA, with a chance to bring our city another championship just months after the Astros won the World Series.

I'm done with NCAA basketball, though I see that my other alma mater (University of Houston) is likely headed to the tourney under Kelvin Sampson. o_O

Nebraska... Since both teams at Carthage and Stout have finished their seasons and neither Wildcats team rates to see postseason play.

Or maybe NU will shock the world, pull a double Holy Cross, and go a combined 9-0 in the B1G tourneys!

Yeah it has been a while.....was having a flashback going back to growing up in Peoria when St. Louis and Cincinnati with Oscar Robertson were big draws . I either forget things I should remember or remember things I should forget!

My team is whoever will win me money in the $5 bracket I filled out. (Upside to NU's disappointing season: No need to double my investment to create a NORTHWESTERN WINS bracket.)

I like Loyola. I’ll probably root for Purdue in the tourney and Butler if they get seeded.
